M-57
at the Hastings gun show today there was a 4 inch nickel M-57 with an "S" serial number. it has a wood case but it had been relined with a ****** brown liner. it had some really nice looking "cokes" on it. the front sight pins were proud and nickel plated as well however I think I remember seeing some nickel plated guns on this forum that had blue pins but I could be wrong on that. the table owner wasn't around so I didn't get any closer look than just being in the case. if it had been fired it hadn't fired very much. the owner had a price of $2,000

Uh, unless there is something I am missing, that price is not the only thing that was really high.

Nickel 57 S prefix? $2,000? Talk about being able to double your money! I'd go back if the show is still open.

Have to agree with Doug M. Unless it was owned by someone quite famous or is identical to the gun in the thread below, no way it's worth $2k to a smart buyer. Perfect for the guy who bought a PMR-30 for $1100 two years ago and a bone stock Bushmaster AR for $1800 last year...

I don't know if it was quite worth 4K with a relined presentation case. But at 2K it was a buy for sure.

I have to admit I would not try. I am not a collector and that revolver would have no extra value to me.

Certainly a very scarce variation, and I don't even collect model 57s :P When you consider what a blue S prefix 4in model 57 brings, the gun as described by the OP qualifies as "cheap" IMO. The 4in barrel is desirable, but the big thing here is the nickel finish...

A decent price for a fairly early Model 57 with a nickel finish. The pins securing the ramp base to the barrel should be finished in nickel.

It's only the beginning of the higher values. Nickel guns will be more rare. Ill have to look at my newer nickel finish guns to see what color the pins are. I'm not second guessing anyone. Maybe certain years of production it possibly it changed. I could suffer from old age and brain fade.

The Model 57 shown in the photo below was shipped in August 1965. You can see the two pins securing the ramp base to the barrel. Click on the photo for a better look.
