Default I need some insight

I’m not a collector, I am more of a accumulator and shooter. Several years ago I bought a 4 inch Model 29 blue at a local gun shop. The gun went cheap due to the crime lab scribe marks in 5 or 6 places. The lab numbers indicate that the gun had been involved in some crime in the past.

I have thought about having it re-blued or maybe using one of the dark wonder finishes out there.

I would like to round the pistol grip for comfort, looks and I have a great pair of N frame RB combat grips that came off of a model 24 many years ago.

So what’s the pros and pardon the pun cons of re doing this wonderful shooting pistol?

It is your gun, so with it as you wish. Many were made and with the lab number scribed on the gun, the value is well below an identical gun without the "engraving". Since the scribing was most likely done with an electric pencil, a good refinish buffing may erase the numbers.

The wear isn't honest wear from a holster or regular use, so I say do what you want. Its not a safe queen, its not rare. If you want to customize it by rounding the butt and rebluing, do it. Just be sure to post pics.

I don't know if I'd bother or not, but I can't think of any reason not to have it refinished if you want to.

Welcome to the Forum.

Just be careful that you don't remove the serial number from the butt if you do decide to roundbutt it.

You are aware that a professional job of rounding the butt might cost as much as what you paid for the gun?

If the model 24 those RB Combats came from was a Lew Horton, they may be K/L frame dimension, not N.
