N frame smooth targets
I acquired these grips on a model 17-2 recently. They are marked on the back N-RH and N-LH with both sides labeled 4111.
The pictures tell the most. The right panel has a small crack at the base shown in the photo. Finnish is worn in spots.
I only own K frames. The printing makes me think these are from the 61 to 80 period.
Thank you for help with this.

They have silver washers and do not have flush Escutcheons. Therefore they are 1970-80. Black washers would tell you Pre 1969.
The N is for N Frame and then Left Hand, Right Hand.
Prob worth 75-125 depending on how bad Crack is.
Factory S&W Stocks
Hope this helps

From looking at old posts in the search I am assuming these are rosewood presentation stocks. But I am only going by what I have read.
I have not been able to get an idea of how old they are from looking on this board or if they are a factory stock(grip).
Thank you again for any help on these.

Bob...based on the configuration of the stocks (escutcheon and nut, stainless stock circles, etc.), I would estimate they date to around 1975 or 1976. There is also a chip on the left panel at the top of the horn (visible in the second photo). I believe the stocks are made of Goncalo alves rather than rosewood. The stocks are of S&W manufacture.
Below is a photo of a pair of rosewood stocks that date of 1975. The escutcheon on that pair and your stocks is the same and the overall shape is similar, particularly where the stocks meet the frame near the trigger guard.
Based on condition, I would value your stocks at $60 to $75.

Thank you Jim and Bill for the details on these. I am grateful for the information.
Jim I apologize for typing over your detailed answer. I used three posts to avoid loading the first one with too many photos for the readers with phone internet and you got in before I was done.
Bill thanks for the clarification on the wood type and the chip.
I knew I would get the help I needed here.

Jim, black washers arent all pre 1969, they were used up until around 1972 or so.

Kris and Jim...I have a couple of pairs of NT stocks with stock circles finished in black oxide that, based on their configuration, date to 73-75. However, 1972 was probably the last year they were generally used.

Again, we have to remember that S&W never did anything with future collectors and specific dates in mind. You also have to remember that guns didn't always leave the factory right away. It is quite possible that a gun stocked with stocks with black washers sat in the vault and didn't ship until the 80's.
Many change orders that came down from above will give a ballpark deadline but there is always the possibility of items that break the curve and show up later. With S&W's, nothing is ever certain 100%.
