Default Model 29-2 USA Bicentennial Barrel Stamping

I recently acquired a Model 29-2 with a unique stamping on the left side of the barrel. There are seven stars, the number 76 and then six stars stamped on the left side of the barrel. The thirteen stars and the number 76 would seem to indicate a special United States Bicentennial edition. The stamping appears like this:

* * * * * * * 76 * * * * * *

All of the stampings, including SMITH & WESSON, 44 MAGNUM, the trademark information and the logo are gold filled. The serial number N345xxx falls within the 1975-1976 date range. The gun has a blued finish and the barrel length is 8-3/8 inch. It came with the wooden presentation box (in fair shape with light scratches and some deterioration of the plastic inserts), cleaning kit, screwdriver, manual and other papers. There are some light handling marks and a slight turn ring, but it appears to be unfired.

I've been searching for more information off and on for the past few days and must now admit defeat. Can anyone here tell me more about this particular variation and give me a rough indication of its value?

The serial number dates the 29-2 to 1976, our bicentennial year. It is my understanding the first Model 29-2 commemorative was made in 1979 for the North Carolina State Police, but there may have been some special guns issued before that.
