Hello I am trying to find out some information on my guns, I have several and unfortunately with S&W history I haven't found a catalog of serial numbers, to determine when they were made or shipped ( they should take notes from Colt; type in the serial number and they give you the date). I would appreciate any help in my quest.

I would like info on;
1. 1911 45Auto SN=UCS5421 its stainless and blued should be recent.
2. Model 41 .22 cal SN = A678112 Blue 2 inch barrel
3. Model 27-2 .357 mag SN = N495488 Blue 6 inch barrel
4. Model 19-3 .357 mag SN = 7K99896 Blue 6 inch barrel
5. Model 17-4 .22 SN = 33K6515 Blue 6 inch barrel
6. Model 27-2 .357 mag SN = N220014 Blue 8 inch barrel
7. Model 29-2 .44 mag SN = N472111 Blue 7 inch barrel

Going by The Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson (the "gold" standard for books on the mark) and with the caveat that I could be wrong but I'm trying to help:
1. perhaps 1997
2. unaware of a 2" model 41 but that serial should be 1981
3. 1977
4. 1975
5. 1978/79
6. 1974 should be an 8 3/8"
7. Not aware of a 7" 29-2 but the serial # should be 1977 (did you measure the barrel properly?)

I hope I was able to offer some assistance, I'm by no means in the category of many here but just using this preferred reference to help out.

You can find the list of serial number published in the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wessons. This is one of the best reference books on the Companies firearms

The approximate dates when the frames were manufactured is as follows:

1. Too new to be in the book

2. Model 41 .22 cal SN = A678112 Blue 2 inch barrel.
A model 41 can not be a 2" barrel. The serial number dates to 1981

3. Model 27-2 .357 mag SN = N495488 Blue 6 inch barrel
The serial number dates to 1977/78

4. Model 19-3 .357 mag SN = 7K99896 Blue 6 inch barrel
The serial number dates to 1975

5. Model 17-4 .22 SN = 33K6515 Blue 6 inch barrel
The serial number dates to 1978/79

6. Model 27-2 .357 mag SN = N220014 Blue 8 inch barrel
The serial number dates to 1974/75

7. Model 29-2 .44 mag SN = N472111 Blue 7 inch barrel
The serial number dates to 1977/78

If you want the shipping dates you need to request a historical letter from S&W, there is no way to list that kind of information in a book
