My very special restored Model 60.
Evening guys, and gals!
I posted earlier about the Smith & Wesson Model 60 I inherited from my grandfather when he passed away, and I didn't know a whole lot about it. The folks on here have been great, and I'm glad to be part of this community. I've definitely learned a lot about not only my revolver, but Smith & Wessons in general.
The revolver was in disrepair, needing parts, and a good cleaning. After a lot of elbow grease, and the bolt, bolt plunger and spring from Sgt 127 (whom I cannot thank enough), it's finally in perfect working condition, and beautiful I might add.
I remember my grandfather sitting at the kitchen table cleaning this gun when I was very little. I remember riding in his patrol vehicle, pretending I was his partner hoping one day I could have a shiny gun like his. It may look like an ordinary revolver, but to me it's so much more.
I present to you, the most prized possession I will ever own, and one I will never part with.
My Smith & Wesson Model 60.
I'll be shooting this, and posting my video soon.
Thank you all!
Josh

A very beautiful specimen of a model 60. It makes it all the better knowing it was your grandfathers. I hope you have many years to enjoy and the opportunity to pass it along to someone that will do the same.

Very nice revolver, looks very familiar, but yours has a much better story than mine. I carry the bottom one everyday, sold the top one.

Very nice! Many in your situation ask how much their gun is worth, but I'm glad to see you already figured that out. Enjoy!

Somewhere your grandfather is smiling. A fine little gun, most lovingly restored.

Very nice!
Glad you got it up and running. I feel the same way about a Marlin 336 that does not have as cool of a story, but I'm still sentimental about.
Looking forward to more great photos and the range report.

Now that's a great story. A cherished item from your granddad, associated with fond memories, brought back to function with help from a friendly S&W forum member.
Can't beat that.

My late grandfather's 10-5 might be the last gun I would part with. Nice work on restoring a fine memory.

I love family treasures. I have several of my own that I can only hope my kids, grandkids and so on will see the same intrinsic value in them. Great job on the rebuild. Most of all, be safe and enjoy!

A beautiful family treasure I have one [had] that I acquired from the collection of the man [deceased] that took me to gun shows when I was in my early teens. It had a serial number with 657 in it which is what I collect It was destroyed in a house fire along with a 66-1 that I harvested my first handgun hunted deer I recovered both but they are destroyed [ugly sight] Along with the others I wish you many years of enjoyment and a legacy that you can pass on to someone that will treasure it as much is you do. Store it in a safe secure location when not in use. Use a non-special firearm for your house gun [lesion learned the HARD way] Best Keith

It's beautiful. I have one just like it, except mine is missing the best part of all - the memories. My M60 is just a nice little gun, yours is a whole lot more. Well done sir.

Beautiful M-60 you have as well as the memories.
The only gun I have of my Dad's is a Model 60 too. Remember him carrying it everywhere he went and cleaning it at the kitchen table as well.

That is great that you have your grandpa's revolver and fond memories of him.Hopefully you have, or will have a child that you can pass your family heirloom to someday.
If you have your Grandpa's badge, photos of him wearing the revolver, the holster he carried it in, or other related items, put them together along with a note about him, and his service so it will stay with the revolver.

I don't believe that it's the gun as the story that goes with it that is the important thing. There may be a million guns just like it, but only one with that story. Keep that safe and write the story down so that someday you Grand kid can have it to. I wish I was in you shoes. My dad got rid of his Model 28 that I have written about. Finding it is my Gail gun.

The M60 is beautiful in it's simplicity and function. It is one of my favorite EDC pieces.
Yours has been made more beautiful by how you've restored it and certainly by what it means to you. Use it with pride and confidence. Gramps would be proud of you Josh. Well done sir.

It made me think again about a .22 cal Remington Target Mode 12-C NRA with an octagonal barrel that I inherited from my grandpa. He was a fisherman [later a clam digger] on the south shore of Long Island, and the oral history was that he took it on the boat with him when he "went outside", which translates to when he went out of the inlet to the ocean. I shoot it occasionally, but it's certainly a treasure.

My grandfather gave me his Winchester model 1897 12 ga shotgun. The shotgun had issues so I sent it to simmons gun shop in Kansas. Had it fixed and reblued (sent in jan 1965) for $60.00, took it to the retirement home to show him. He looked at it for awhile and asked what it cost to fix. $60. I said he looked at me and said " you crazy s--- I only paid $15.00 for the gun. I have given the shotgun to my son with instructions to pass it on to his son with the story. I hope your great looking model 60 never leaves your family.

My Dad gave me his father's Victory Model about 15 years ago. It was the very first handgun I ever held and fired. I was five and remember both of them teaching me how to hold it & shooting it in Grandpa's back yard outside of Youngstown.
It was a hand cannon for me! I also shot his 20 gauge & a 22 rifle that day, but nothing compared to that parkerized VM.
I shoot it occasionally and have shared it with my kids as well.
It's amazing how steel and wood can mean so much to so many people!
