Yesterdays Pickups
I got a call yesterday form someone who had just inherited some firearms and wanted to dispose of them. I bought these two; A Model 17 shipped in 1954 and a Model 10 shipped in 1950.
Note that the Model 17 is equipped with an aftermarket trigger shoe and a grip adapter.
The Model 17 is in almost brand new condition and appears to have only been used lightly.

The model 10 shows honest carry wear and I've been told it an ex Chicago cops gun. This H H Heiser holster came with it and the pouch hold spare ammo. I don't believe I've ever seen this arrangement before.
All in all it was a very good day!

Both look to be excellent guns. The K 22 Target Masterpiece (actual name/ not model 17) looks especially nice.

I guess I have been mistaken. I thought the K22 evolved into the Model 17 at some point in time. This example has the 4 line stamping on the right side of the frame. Thanks for the correction.
Anyway it is in truly excellent condition for a 60 year old gun.

It did evolve into the Model 17,about three years after your gun was produced.
My K22 also has a trigger shoe-a not uncommon addition of that era.
The one line to four line address change took place within K22 production-1948.

Very nice purchase.
I've never seen a pouch like that either. Does it have a maker's mark on it?

Pre-Model 10?
If the .38 M&P shipped in the early 1950s, wouldn't it actually be considered a .38 M&P (pre-Model 10)? Just sayin... You've got a couple of nice pieces there, along with some vintage leather.

Nice! Never seen an ammo carrier on the holster before, but it looks like you scored!

I like the cartridge holder idea even if it probably wasn't too practical... It probably would have dragged on stuff all the time. It does appear hand made, looking at the stitching, so perhaps it was even a one-off. Gotta love the K-22, can't ever get enough of those!

Whatever you call that nice .22, I would remove that trigger shoe immediately. it protrudes past the edges of the trigger guard and can potentially cause an accidental discharge if it catches on something. It completely negates the protection afforded by the trigger guard.
These were a fad from the 50s and 60s as I recall. Smiths normally have trigger pulls that don't need these shoes.
