What should I expect to pay for a nice model 17 or 18?
Sold my 617-6 and am looking to get either a 617 4" 6 shot no lock, or a 17 or 18.

A 4" 617 or -1 will run about $1K or higher. It depends on your definition of "nice", but a model 17 or 18 with little to no wear should be in the $600 range.

I agree on what a 17 or 18 should be but I haven't found one in 98% for less than a grand. I've seen a 17 in ~70% priced at $600. I keep looking.

Lots of threads on here about this. Somewhere out there in the vastnest of intracoastal America, the LGSs may be teeming with pristine 17s and 18s for $600, but here on the East Coast it's been years since I've seen one. I hunted for several years before finding a 4" K-22 at all; wound up paying $725 for a 95% pre-18 a year ago. Since then, I've seen a few at the big Nation's Gun Show in Chantilly for $800 and up.
17s are somewhat more common and somewhat less.
As always, check the completed sales on Gunbroker for an idea of national prices.

I did see a decent 17 today at a gunshow for $600.
I chose to pass as someone had the rear sight windage cranked to one side.
I can't stand to own guns with sights maxed out like that.

Well, if "nice" means 98% to NIB with the contents, you are talking more $800-1000 depending on the vintage. I too have not seen any 95-97% model 17s or 18s at $600 at any gun shows...this may a hint as to where you need to look for one .

I came across a '52 pre 18 in the low 90s (a bit of muzzle wear, turn line) wearing rubber grips for $550 on GB several months ago.Found the correct grips for $40 and it's a great shooter.

Amazing coincidence! I was going to post a similar question.
The last time I had the chance at a 17-6, it had a tag with the numbers 729.00, and that made me wince a bit.
This afternoon, I saw another 17-6, sporting a $999.99 price tag.
Which again, made me wince, but I had a coupon, and my club card, so I reasoned myself into putting it on layaway.
I know it's only worth what you are willing to pay for it.
It's in good shape, but no box-n-dox.
Right now...$700.00 seems a darn good price.

I have a NIB M18-3 from 1977 that I wouldn't sell for less than $950. Try and find them. Owners are holding on to them. Shown with Kuracs

I got my 18-2 used, but in great condition, with a price tag of $89.00. I got $40.00 for trading in a Ruger .22 Single Six pinto, so it only cost me $52.20 OTD.
That was back in March.........................................1972.
I wish I hadn't traded the Ruger. Back then, I thought the polished Aluminum frame looked funny with the blued barrel and cylinder, but nowadays the lightweight pinto would be worth some big bucks.

I would consider that to be a very lucky day for anyone interested in M18's not a day to come around a second time most likely.
