Model 58 sight options
I have a Model 58 and can't stand the factory ramp.
Any options for a different front sight? A Patridge with a gold bead would probably be ideal, but does anyone make them the required height?
I can barely make out the pin holding the ramp in, do these get drifted out in a specific direction?
Thanks for any info.
My last option would be to get a dovetail machined and install a Novak, but I'd rather not modify the revolver.

Cheaper to buy a model 57 than alter a fixed sight m&p - once you get the front like you want you need to do work on the back to get POI correct.

I put some of my wife's bright red finger nail polish on mine back in 1966. It's still there.
I was in several serious social encounters over 13 years behind a badge. So far, so good.

Model 58's are so scarce that finding an aftermarket drop in sight will be next to impossible. You can go with the nail polish or have a channel cut into the factory front sight for a red ramp.

This is what I did
Had Bowen install an improved profile, pinned in place. Instant success.

Exactly what I'm looking for.......I'm afraid to ask what it costs and turnaround time tho.....I'm pretty sure I could modify a sight blank but I still need to know if I can drift the pin out in either direction.
And I definitely don't want a Model 57.....fixed sights do it for me....(I know I'm in the minority)

Copy the picture, attach it to an email to him and find out the cost and turnaround. Hamilton is very easy to deal with.

Looks like .45 Schofield?, built on a 58 frame with a donor barrel.....
Beautiful gun.

Top gun is a 45 S&W (Schofield) built on a Model 520, with a modified Model 1955 barrel. Rib is machined to match the original Model 58 rib.
Bottom gun is a Model 58 with a Model 57 barrel machined in the same manner to match the original rib.
Over a period of 10 years I had Hamilton build a total of 6 of these guns: two in 45 Colt, one in 45 S&W, two in 44 Special, and one in 41 Magnum. All have been sold and are now in new homes.

I would go with a dovetailed front sight. Easier to zero that way. You might want to switch loads some day.

OP: sorry about the OT. I share you feelings about the ramp sights. Too much glare.

Hamilton makes this sight with various degrees of offset if I remember correct so you can simply swap sights to move windage.

I'll second the idea of buying a Model 57 and leaving the 58 as is. Sell the 58 if you need to fund the other gun, I think you'll be happier in the long run.

Not an option...see above. All I want is a different sight blade....
Any ideas on drifting the pin? I take it that you can drive it out in either direction?

It's a straight pin, not tapered. Either direction is good.

I like ramp sight , but that's why we have choices.
As another option , IIRC Cylnder & Slide makes a "fixed" rear sight to fit in the cutout for the adjustable rear sight ( on a M57 ) .
