Default Refinished Model 58 value

This is a refinished late S serial m-58. As you can see from the pix it also has jeweled hammer and trigger. I wouldn't mind having a shooter grade but what would be the most you would offer for it?

It all depends on how good the reblue is and who did it. If it was S&W or say Fords where you are getting a quality job done. I would be in the $450 range prob no more. To replace the hammer and trigger will run about $100 if someone did not like the jeweling. I have two 58's with S numbers. I paid $800 a few years ago and was glad to find one cause they just ain't around.

The gentleman who's selling it seems to think it was refinished by Fords because of the quality, but is uncertain. If I do get it the jeweled hammer and trigger would have to go and since I already have a nice trigger for it I would only need a hammer.

I think $450-$500 would be decent on that one. Depends on how tight it is. I know jeweled triggers and hammers were popular a while back, but on a 58?

Any makings to indicate a factory reblue?

Wow, that's a shiny one.
I don't know what the dollar value is, but will say that my philosophy on a used or modified gun is that it must be acceptable to me as is. Refinishing, restoring, or returning a second hand gun to original configuration can get out of hand very quickly.
If I couldn't stand a jeweled hammer, I would keep shopping.

There's a member here that does case coloring at a reasonable price if you get it.

Decent used 58's are pushing $900 + on GB.
58 Pictured is nicely done...wrong stocks.
If it is tight and right...$500.00

$500..I think you guys are dreaming... If that gun was all original in that condition it would sell for the $950 area...as is even with the reblue and jeweled hammer/trigger on one of the auction sites it would bring $700+.

As said however the stocks are wrong but if it were in the shop I just came from I would put out $650 right now...but if you can get it for in the $500s do it...now...

Bob

ps..that is also an original Melvin Tyler T-Grip....those alone will bring $40-50.00.

"Decent" is from the buyers perspective. I can easily see a shop putting $650 on it. PC magnas consistent with the finish on this gun would be futile because it's a shooter. A very pretty shooter, but not collector grade with the re-blue. Why bother. I really like 57/58's and I would be tempted with that as a shooter. I wonder what it looked like before some one spent all that money on the refinish. That expenditure must have been a very personal decision so I also wonder why it's on the market.

That looks to be a nicely done reblue and I agree with Superman on the price range. If I were to buy it I would make use of our onsite case coloring member to keep it "in the family" and have the original parts still in it.

I currently have a bid on a listed re-blued 58
at $685.00...it is a gamble but want a shooter.
It is strapped with a nice set of Target Combat stocks.
I have a pair of proper 58 grips in my stash.
I will retire my near 95+% 1972 vintage 58 or sell it.

Sometimes a refinish is justified. Here's my case. Click on the pics for a larger version.

Model 58, refinished by S&W

That "beater" that just ended is going to be missing more than the factory stocks pretty soon. It will get a rebored 41 caliber model 28 barrel and possibly a set of Bowen combat sights then possibly Np3 or Roguard finish when Hamilton is done.

Thanks guys! I was looking for justification to add this to my .41 collection. If it's still available, I'll post pix of it's further customized costume.
