Model 49 with "odd" serial number...
Have a Model 49/blue that when I checked the serial number to date it seemed a little odd...
622Jxx...
Looked in The Book and see J prefix numbers but nothing with a letter in the middle of the serial number...or am I missing something...
Any information would be appreciated...
Thanks...Bob

That is referred to as the floating J
Your revolver will most likely have been manufactured in 71/72

Yes. It most likely dates from 1972. Look on page 399, under J Serial Prefix. You will see the following:
1971-72 J1 - 999J99.
The J "floated" during these two years, with only 5 numeric digits. This was a different scheme from that used in 1982-1983, where there was one digit before the J and a total of six digits. The "floating" scheme was only used in 1971-72.
