S&W Model 33- Need Manufacturing Date Please
I am in the process of buying an older S&W Model 33. The serial number is 890XX. My copy of SCSW isn't any help, can anyone tell me the manufacturing date of this revolver? Thanks.

I don't have the gun in my possession yet but I am pretty sure that it is a no dash model.

Check out page 148 ,Pre 33 postwar and page 206,Model 33 in the SCS&W. Looks to be in there when you are sure if Model marked or not.
The -1 started in 1961 and the R prefix in 1969.

Hi Rick
I have one with serial 867XX which is a 33-1 and was made in the early 60's and also has B.N.C. on the back strap which was a bank guards gun or bank managers gun.
There a cool gun to shoot it is a J frame gun
Have fun with it if its a keeper.
They are hard to sell nobody wants them as ammo is tough to find.
Take Care
Rick

Oh and forgot to mention that it also has a flat latch cylinder opener and they were discontinued in 1966 there bouts.

Mine must obviously be a dash 1 gun as well as the serial number is later than yours. I remember it having a flat latch and has older diamond service grips.
