Default model 10-6 info please

I have a S&W model 10-6 with a serial number of 3D07281.
It has black pearl grips and is in perfect condition. My father left this to me and I am trying to find info on it: year, value, how many made, etc... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Caliber? If chambered in .357mag, it may be of higher value, all other factors being equal.

2D80,001 – 3D99,999………1978 (manufacture)
It should be a 10-7 or 10-8 depending on whether it has the standard barrel or the heavy barrel. Exactly what is the model stamping in the yoke area? Black pearl grips would be aftermarket.

It is .38 cal. Stamping in yoke is 10-6. Has what looks to be 4 inch barrel. It is in very good condition.

DWalt is correct that the serial number dates the gun to 1978. However, it is possible that one with the gas ring on the yoke was assembled and serialized after the 10-8 was introduced. If so, it would be marked 10-6. I have actually encountered this in the past.
