Default Price Check on UGLY 10-7

Looking for a price check on this admittedly-ugly 10-7. Guy says the gun is tight, but it sure looks like hell. What do you think it's worth and could it be cleaned up?

Looks like a 250-275 shooter grade depending on where you live

That's kinda what I was thinking. He was originally asking $325, then lowered it to $300. Still open to other opinions because I, too, don't think it's worth $300.

Also, do you think the finish can be "saved"?

Default There is a similar gun on a Georgia forum

S&W model 10-6 .38spl $235 For Trade West GA | Handgun Classifieds in Georgia | The Outdoors Trader

Clean on the other side of Atlanta from me, not that I am interested in it. I will not buy anything that needs refinishing as the wait time does not interest me. You might compare the two though.

My top $$ would be $250, that's ONLY if I needed / wanted one for a truck rider. If it;s as tight as he says, it's worth that as a shooter.

I'll go with $250-275.

If it is tight and the mechanicals are in order, good toolbox or backup gun stashed somewhere within reach.

I have a well worn 10-5 out in the garage tucked away, just in case. I bought several Model 10's a few years back, just for that purpose.

If it comes down to SHTF time I can always get my hands on one.

Seller won't budge from $300. Oh well. Thanks for confirming my pricing ideas.

I have little different opinion. So long as it's not boogered up and is original and mechanically sound, I don't believe $300 is that terrible a price for today if it seems to be talking to you. Of course I would try to negotiate a little better price. It comes down to what you personally think it's worth. If it's a F-to-F sale with no paperwork, no shipping, and no sales tax, that should also enter into the calculation. Could it be cleaned up? Of course it could. It might be a good project gun for a learning experience.

To the OP, do you need a <$300.00 handgun or are you specifically searching for a S&W 10?

I was going to post this as well, beat me to it. Good example a "good" prices for a shooter grade.

Smith cranked out a lot of Model 10's, and apparently they can last a long time. Any 10 with major blemishes but mechanically sound should be south of 300.

I saw a S&W 10 at a LGS today for $375.00 but did not look at it closely. It looked better than the one you posted.

I picked up one that could have been the twin of that M 10. The seller wanted $250, I offered $150. We split the difference at $200. That was about 8 days ago. It is now a 2" stubby with a combat rear sight and I roundbutted it. I will be sending it off for a Hard Chrome finish shortly.

If you have it refinished figure on an additional cost from $150 to $300 depending on what finish, where it has to be shipped and who is doing the refinishing. I think that for $400 you could be buying a near new pristine Model 10 and some ammo for that. ............... Big Cholla

Don't judge a 10 by it's cover. I posted pics of mine in the "workhorse" thread. It looks like garbage but shoots like gold.

I agree. Never judge a book by its cover. But, if there's a pristine example still in its dustcover next to one that's been used as a beer coaster and doorstop at the frat house for years....

There should be a dramatic difference in price.
