My 67-1 with new Culina grips
These grips just came in the mail today. The picture does not do them justice. They are incredible. The Roasted Maple Birdseye wood has great depth and an iridescence that really needs to be seen in person. John and Jennifer do a fantastic job and provide wonderful customer service. If you need grips, check them out. Heck.... check them out even if you don't need grips.

Your revolver looks like a museum piece. I got a set in American Holly--of all woods (looks like ivory)--from one of our great forum members and put on a NIB 66 I had and it looks amazing. As you said pictures do not do them justice. I actually like the light woods on stainless in my case.

Hahaha... with regards to the stainless revolver finish itself, the picture makes it look BETTER than it actually does in person. It's not terrible, but certainly not museum quality. This one is definitely a shooter.

I had actually picked the wood in Flame Maple, but there turned out to be a chip on the back of the wood by the back strap during the working of it. Jennifer sent me an email about it and I picked the Birdseye Maple. No regrets either. Both types of maple are stunning.

John does great work! I have 5 or 6 pair. Out of curiosity, are the "Roasted" woods just naturally darker or is there a process used to make them roasted?
Also, I recently saw a pair of his grips made from Snakewood for sale (I think it was on the forum). They looked fantastic and were made from a wood that I had never heard about!!

Here is my 66-3
Culina's American Holly. Excuse my horrible picture taking. I like the light-colored grips on stainless.

I do not know the process John uses to create the "Roasted" look. I wish I did. Here is another wood that I had never heard of until I contacted them.

I have a similar set of N Frame Square Butts in Roasted Birds Eye. In do not know what I am going to put them on though. They may end up on my 629 No Dash, and the Keith Browns that are on my 629 may go on my 27-2.
I also ordered a set of Pink Eucalyptus Smooth Targets for my 19-4. They should be waiting at work for me on Monday.
I get all my gun grips sent to work. Less questions, no prying eyes, easier for everyone.

This revolver was highly polished when I got it, but whoever polished it, did it unevenly and some areas were pretty much a mirror finish. I don't know what the original finish was, but I think most were a brushed stainless steel. I said "what the heck" and picked up a 3M synthetic 000 steel wool pad, put some gun oil on the revolver and lightly put a "grain" back into the stainless steel. Yes, it made me very nervous doing it, but I tend to be impulsive at times. It actually came out pretty good, but I want to hit it again with some 0000 synthetic steel wool if I can ever find any. I know it exists, but none of the stores around here seem to carry it.

That's the great thing about stainless, you can bring it up or down as much as you want. It's just a question of spending the time to get it where you want it.
One tip, finish it off with a coat or two of Renaissance Wax, you won't believe how good it looks.
I'll tell you, I think I am the unofficial spokesperson for Ballistol, Renaissance Wax, and Kuracs. But they are all top notch. I have 4 sets of Kuracs.
Kuracs will dress up any plain Jane gun.
This 629 was well used. I used gun oil and sand paper to lightly take down some deep scuffs, which are still there, but a lot less noticeable, then I polished it several times with Flitz and Mothers (I like Mothers better), then I Ren Waxed, and put on a set of Kuracs.
It's a real handsome gun now. Definitely a big upgrade from the Pachs it was wearing, and all scratched up and dingy looking. Oh and it is one of my favorite Shooters as well.
