S&W 19-3 2.5" what is it worth?
I found this gun locally. It is a 19-3 2.5" in the classic S&W high polish blue. Looks to be in excellent condition I would estimate 95%+. Looks like a target setup to my eyes. Comes with factory box and is 100% stock.
What is it worth in todays market. I is my understanding that the 2.5" are popular

Pictures aren't coming up for me. If your 95% estimate is accurate, the 19-3 is mechanically sound and the box numbers to revolver, averages on the current market approximate $700 to $800 for that set-up.
The 2.5" barrel is the most desirable of the commonly found 19s (there's an ultra rare 3"); -3s are pinned and recessed, adding to the desirability for many shooters and collectors, and the box (again, if correct to the gun), adds a touch of value, too.

Yup. Very clean looking 19. Shame mechanicals can't be assessed in pics...

Yeah but I will be able to put my hands on it before I purchase it. I am 100% sure it will be excellent mechanical condition. Seller has a good rep!

I WOULD NOT LET THAT JEWEL SLIP THROUGH MY FINGERS. SOMEWHERE IN THE $700. RANGE OTD WOULD BE REASONABLE, IMHO…...

19-3 P&R
Pretty much like waterfront property... If I found one that nice, I wouldn't be quibbling about the price. I have a hard time deciding whether my 2.5 inch 66 no dash, or my 19-3 would be the last gun I'd hang on to. Of all the revolvers in my humble collection, those two just seem to please me the most in ergonomics, design, and material construction. The Dash Three is considered to be one of the best examples! S&W made some beauties back then, didn't they?!

In CA you'd be lucky to snag a 19-3 2.5 in that condition w/box for less than a $1K.

^ And... I would still feel like I got a deal!
In my eyes that's also nicer than 95%. High condition w/ box aren't going down. If you want one, buy on the way up. You'll do fine over the long term.
But, if you're at all like most of us, you'd never sell it anyway...
You'll just buy more

I think the first assessment of $700-800 is right on the money although if you want to nail down the venue to GB I have been bookmarking any M19's 1-4 that are penny auctions or start in the $600 starting price range, and there are very few in that category to start with, most start at $800-850 and there are folks still bidding them up when they are in that range like it's a shark feeding frenzy. I do notice many of the more outlandish auctions seem to have an inordinate amount of bidders with very few previous purchases under their belt.
To show there is always the exception one was listed for $499 starting price I think it was a 19-2 2-1/2" in as reasonable condition as I could tell from the poor quality photos. When I asked the buyer if he could send more photos he pretty much told me the gun was in good condition it just needed to be wiped down with a rag. I think a rag is what he was using as a brain. Besides being a NR (new Seller) he didn't list a contact phone # and I was unable to find his pawn shop in the area he stated. This fellow like others on GB really need some help. The listing did have 1 bid on it but I just couldn't make mine the second in as much as I would like to bag a M19 2.5". I guess I shouldn't have used the quick reply option. Story of my life. Shoot Straight

19-3 values
I opened up my log and looked it up - I paid $850 (shipped) for this dash three in DEC, 2013. It was the revolver only, no extras and I was happy to get it. I wanted a P&R to replace the 19-5 that I had at the time.

Wide target trigger ? I don't think I've ever seen that on a 2&1/2" Mod. 19 or 66. Some one educate me. Nick

I hate to be a Boo Bird, but, I see some things that make me think the gun and the grips have been refinished.

Certainly uncommon; likeliest explanation is a factory special order or a swap after the fact.

OP, that is an outstanding piece! I'd be all over that like a bum on a bologna sandwich...
The TT and TH may well be original. I have a 19-3 2 1/2" complete with the original 2-piece box. It contains the target trigger, hammer white outline sights and red ramp front. The box is marked accordingly.
Shown here is my 19-3 along with it's stainless counterpart a 66 "no dash", both wearing Ahrends.

That thing looks better than new…and I had a new one in 1976. There is barely a faint turn line in the first photo. If refinished, it is a beautiful job. Or it is truly LNIB.

Here's what I have for a track on the model, keep in mind better examples will command higher prices:
Smith & Wesson 19-5 2-1/2 inch barrel. Revolver in .357 Magnum,.38 Special, Plus P. Blue Book of Gun Values (35th Edition) indicates between $325 in 95% condition and $650 in 100% condition for this gun. I have 97 recorded prices for this model gun from $395 to $1055 over a period of 4 Yrs 9 Mos ending January 1, 2015. The average price as of that date was $598. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights. All represented as 95% or better. No distinction for engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $457.
The last 19 prices I have for this model since 1/1/2014 range from $500 to $825 averaging $655

Just before Christmas, I bought a 19-3 with a 2 1/2" barrel and numbered grips in excellent condition for $650 out the door. No box or papers, but the gun is nice. It has a very faint turn line no dings or scratches. I know i got a good price as I feel the value is higher.
Hope that helps with pricing your gun.

I can't get the seller to move much He has come down a little bit but not to that I gotta do it $$$ number.
I also got a pic of the box. The gun shipped with the TT =Target Trigger but not the TH=Target Hammer. The gun was sent back to S&W for the hammer.
The guns finish is original and there is a very faint turn line.
Still considering it.

If it was refinished either they didn't polish the side plate and monogram or had access to a roll stamp. There is still a visible displacement burr on the monogram. At that vintage the monograms were stamped after final polish and a burr was left on the edges from the moved metal. That 19 clearly has a has a burr. I'm going with original finish on the OPs 19-3.
That gun looks to me to be a 98% gun in the photos but without it in hand it can be hard to really tell. I would guess at that condition, with box and accessories in my area it could easily hit $900 to $1000.

Without actually handling the gun I'm just guessing. But my areas of concern are:
1. The disparity between the finish on the side plate and the rest of the gun.
2. The lettering on the barrel has very blunted edges looking like it was polished out and refinished.
3. Gloss of the cylinder and almost total absence of turn line.
4. Side plate more dull than the rest of the gun and what appears to be mottling along the edges of the grip. Just doesn't match the flawless nature of the rest of the gun.
5. What looks like stain residue on the medallions on the grips. Looks like it could be bleed from restaining.
Mind you, I'm not knocking this revolver and I truly hope it is all it looks to be . If it is as represented it's a beautiful find. I'm just saying these are things I would have a very close look at.
