Default 357 highway patrolman

Wondering the value of a 28-2 highway patrolman. Just traded in at my local shop it has never been fired still in original box with papers. It appears to have target stocks on it. He was asking 700 got him down to 600. What do you think???

I think I'd have already brought it home at that price.

Hoping to pick it up tuesday. The original owner inherited it from his grandfathers estate. I would give it a 99%. It has a few almost unnoticeable spots of rust starting that I believe will go away after it gets cleaned. What do you think the value of it would be?

It appears to have holster wear at the muzzle sides, so it has been carried but not fired?

In any case, it's a decent (about the middle of current range) price.

I believe the wear you see in the picture is condensation. The gentleman who brought it in had it in his car overnight and the temperature dropped down to-8 last night. I had to warm it up and oil it

I think that is a good price for the condition and with the box. I bought one a while back that is in good condition but no box and paid less than $500.00. That said I have also watched them sell for up to $800.00 on Gunbroker.com. I love mine and would not sell for $600.00 as it is my favorite to shoot at the range.

If it's as described, a premium dealer would list it for twice what you talked the seller down to.

Highway Patrolmans are doing very, very well.

That is a very, very clean, very nice gun.

$600 for that revolver is a very, very god buy. That is a great value for that gun.

Buy it, knowing that you are not in any way shape or form getting taken.

That gun will bring you years upon years of shooting enjoyment.

You can dial it down with light .38specials, and dial it all the way up with factory hot magnum loads.

$600 for that 28 complete isn't bad. If you grab it for that you will have done well. Had it been a 4", you'd have done better IMO. The earlier comment about prices on 28's not going down is right on. $400 guns are becoming few and far between, with $600 to $700 guns becoming the norm, and the $800 plus guns popping up more and more.

Good Luck and good shooting.

You should have paid for it right then and there for $600. That's a very good price nowadays for an unfired 28 in the box. On GB that would sell for $200-300 more easily.

If it's as OP describes -- perfect, unfired, numbered box, etc. -- yeah. Doesn't mean that's what they'll sell for, but there's a well-known premium dealer with two just like it right now listed for $1200 apiece.
