Recently bought a Smith & Wesson 29-2 with all the paper work, one of the receipts showed it was a "special order" with a "Combat Hammer + Trigger". Does anyone know what the combat hammer and trigger look like compared to the target hammer and trigger?

Target triggers and hammers are wider than combat parts.

The "combat" trigger is usually smooth faced and narrower than the .500 target trigger but wider than the standard width S&W trigger.

Target Hammers are generally .500 wide also ,
IIRC the narrower spur version was called the semi target hammer.

The standard grooved trigger is .265" wide.

The combat or "Ranger" trigger is smooth faced and .312" wide.

Target triggers are grooved and are available in .400" and .500" wide.

Through out the production life of 29-2s there were only two N frame hammers, the standard narrower hammer Engine49guy called simi-target and the ½” target hammer. I’ve only seen the latter in 29-2s. S&W named the standard L frame .312” smooth trigger “combat,” triggers interchange between L and N frames and 29-2 production over lapped the first few years of L frame production so a combat trigger could have been special ordered. S&W never named a hammer “combat” but the narrower hammer could have been special ordered.

Can you show us pictures of your 29-2 and the invoice?

You missed one. Don't forget the narrow .265" service hammer used on the model 58 and 520. That was the third size.
