2012 Bargain buys?
This is mine. Of all my purchases last year, this was probably the best 'bang for the buck'; a 1967 era Model 19-2 for $275.00. It has been properly reblued, came with non-original Target stocks and from the way it shoots, seems to have had the a 'trigger tune' sometime in its life. The story as I got it was the owner was an accomplished shooter, so I wouldn't be surprised. I also picked up a NIB, never fired 3-screw Ruger Single Six with both cylinders, box, papers and tools, also for $275.00 that came from the same original owners. It was a good day for me! I added these after-market stocks from Grand Blue and I can attest that it's a frightenly accurate shooter even with me as the pilot!
What would you consider your bargain of the recent past year to be?

With the prices today during the mad rush to buy anything I have to say everything I bought in 2012 was a bargain.

My 2012 "Bargain buy"was a 28-2 Highway Patrolman with a 4"barrel. It had a "mild case of endshake", but that was easily cured with a .004 endshake bearing for about $2.50. I paid $400 OTD for it and feel that was a "bargain buy". It's my first N Frame, and I really love it.

My bargain buy for 2012 was not a S&W, but a 6" nickle plated Python with original 2nd generation grips for a total layout of $ 825.00.

My 2012 bargain buy was this well-worn M&P for 145 bucks that I picked up at my LGS.
It was absolutely filthy and had some surface rust.
I cleaned it up and added the Altamont rosewood stocks that I had on hand.
The gun has a weird aftermarket hammer with a very shallow spur angle and what looks like flaking nickel finish on it.
Sweet trigger pull and shoots great!

27-2 4" with presentation box that I paid $500 for this year, added $100 and swapped it for 2 Mini-14's before the rush. Sold one of the Mini-14's for $1000 recently.
99% M19 2 1/2" , blued w/ box for $385.
3" M29, box, grips etc for $650.
M&P 9 NIB, bought at auction for $400.
Those were my best deals this year.

My best deals for 2012:
-Authentic 2" barrel victory in 38 spl for $244.62
-Model 18 in 95% condition with period correct but not # matching grips for $330
-Numbers matching pre-war 38/44 heavy duty 5" in 95% condition with pre-war magna's for $375
-Model 27-2 5" in 95% condition for $430
-Model 547 3" in 95% condition for $600
I had some other good deals, but these stand out as the best.
I also missed out on my fair share of deals because I didn't have the money...
Worst deal:
-A refinished K22 outdoorsman I paid $500 for (stupid me, missed obvious signs of refinishing) that I later traded at a $100 loss just to get rid of it.

I consider all three of these good deals from 2012.
My 27-2, circa 1964 for $279, the model 28-2, circa 1966 for $450, and the model 49, circa 1977 for $385.

This 19-4 snubby. $250 I added the Altamont Target Stocks $65
As received...
Maybe just as good...these 2 Pre model 42 Airweight Centennials within 10 days at different locations S/N 4 digits and 1 away from being consecutive..
less than $900 combined for both of them.

I have narrowed it down to three, which I considered steals:
The Model 27-2 was $500 and tax.
The Trooper .357 was $380, and I added the correct target stocks.
The Model 29-2 was $500. It and the trooper came from the same estate sale.

I don't know if there is anyway to really judge if this was a great buy but I'm sure happy with the price I paid. I picked this hard chrome plated 1950 Military .44 Spl. up for $450.

Some get better deals then others it seems.
Mine are a 4" HP nobody wanted because it was nickeled for $400.
The other is a M14-2 for $325.
Others I paid too much for....

The best deal I got in 2012 didn't involve a S&W. I did however pick up two Rugers (a 1976 NM Blackhawk and a 1975 Single Six) for $225 for the pair.
Really good deals on S&W's just don't seem to happen around here. I did pick up this four screw Model 29 for $600, which isn't too bad.
Although not strictly handgun related, the best deal so far this year (I know it's early), I just traded a Beretta 92 that I paid $300 for a couple of years ago for this very fine condition 1884 Trapdoor Springfield.

Okay. I look at a lot of the pictures of guns some of you post, and I think to myself, "Jack, you just can't beat that!" But here's a deal that I think will get you salivating like Pavlov's dogs!
I was out of state a while back, on business. One evening when I talked to my dearly beloved, she said she "won a gun." She had gone to the bazaar at our son's church, and bought a ticket for $10 for a "gun drawing." Her ticket was drawn.
I told her congratulations and looked forward to seeing what she had acquired.
When I got home, she takes out this:
Needless to say, she let me have it, bless her dear heart! So, for 10 bucks, I got a 6" Highway Patrolman! It is a 28-2, shipped in 1972. It's not in perfect condition, but for that price, who is complaining?

Model 28-2, 4 inch, good finish $400 + $45 for correct magna's
Model 19-5, 2 1/2 inch (DSS overrun gun, matte finish, pachmayer grips) good condition, $250

Had a good year
I didn't have an amazing bargain this year, but got some nice bargains.
A 5" 27-2 98% with matching grips - $700
A 6.5" 25-2 99% with box and orig grip - $690
Benelli M1 super 90 tactical 95% - $615
But based upon the recent prices, every gun and all of the cases of ammo I bought last summer, look amazing about now.

Here is my top 5 of 2012:
Colt Magnum Carry-$700 off Armslist,Came with 2 50rd boxes of .357,Leather Bianchi IWB holster and a Bianchi Accumold holster. These guns are very rare and where only made for 1yr.
S&W 29-4 Lew Horton-$600 from local Newspaper.I contacted Lew Horton and was told this gun is 1 of 200 that are factory Mag-Na-Ported.
Colt Commano Special-$300 off Armslist,Came with 3 speedloaders,Bianchi OWB holster and 1 50rd box of .38spl.This is another rare Colt that was only made for for 2yrs 1984-86. It is a Detective Special with Parkerized finish.
S&W 66-4 3" $450 from local gun show.Came as pictured with Combat grips. This gun is 1 of 500 from RSR in 1996.The Stainless has been mirror polished and the hammer/trigger chrome plated. This gun is also factory Mag-Na-Ported.
S&W 500ES Emergency Survival Kit NIB $900 from Armslist.Everything is new and untouched and the gun is factory test fired only.I think with the low production numbers on this kit,$900 was a great investment.
I also have a few more good buys such as a Sig P226 Equinox NIB for $600,S&W 19-4 LNIB for $500 and a NIB Colt Python 4" for $1,900.

I think maybe this will qualify as a "2012 buy" since I found it and put it on layaway last year. It was intended to be payed out before Christmas but it didn't work out that way. I picked it up last week.
1972 4" Model 29-2.
Does not have the original grips. I do like the Rogers grips that came on it (I also have a pair for my 66) but plan to get some pretty wood ASAP.
Got a couple of very small spots in the blueing that don't really show in this pick because of the glare, in the grip cutout area. Nothing that won't clean up easily.
Maybe not a steal but for $479 total, but I'm very happy with the deal.

This year brought me a 627-2 with 5" barrel. Since I have been looking for a 5" 627 full lug barrel for over 10 years, it has to be the buy of the year!

38-44 Outdoorsman (Postwar)
16-4, maybe not a "bargain" but a fair price and one I had been searching for.

Not sure if it was a true bargain but I gave $500 OTD for the M29-2. It came with an Austin Belhert target rear sight that I have since swapped out for an original though w/o white outline as I prefer.

Deal of the Century, this 1903A1 National Match C stock for $5 at a yard sale. Also works for the M1941 USMC sniper. Sold it on Ebay for almost $500.
