I know I sound like another one of those annoying schmucks who is completely clueless..and you'd be right.

I've had my grand father's S&W MODEL 36 for years now.
Can one of you throw out the mnf/production year for it?
*SERIAL ON BUTT: AAR75##
*Inside swing-out cylinder (..or yoke) reads:
MOD 36
6 8 X 4 9
F26 (?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated-THANKS.

Probably 1982, but you can never be sure with the three Alpha/four digit serial numbers. They were not used very consistently.

AARxxx per s/n range in Standard Catalog SW late 1982. Which is also same time the J prefix was used. Sounds like a transition s/n from J to 3 letters..A gun this new may be worth a call to SW Customer service. They can give you exact date If its in their data base (e- data base) i would give it a try.
