Default Lucked into a 28-2

Hello everyone it seems today was a lucky day for me. Having the day off work i decided to go to a few local gun shops and see if i could find a new range gun. At the third store i was looking in the used case and spotted a Model 28-2 with a price i couldn't pass up. I am now the owner of a nice N frame gun that i am told dates to 1966-1967 serial number S271xxx. I am glad to be a member of a forum that has such knowledge and has kept my gun budget low on funds. I now have four S&W handguns and can't wait to get this one to the range after i get some more ammunition.

sorry about the poor picture quality some of you fine folks take great pictures.

Nice gun! I got one just like it!! LOL. I actually like the looks of the Magna stocks on yours more than the targets mine came with. I split the difference and got a set of Eagles though. Shoot yours yet?

You can always remove the trigger shoe. Probably don't need it, anyway. Point is, you got yourself a nice 4-inch 28-2 with an S serial number...and that's always a good thing. They're great guns, no doubt about it, a real workhorse of a revolver.

Very nice, and a great price as well. Yours is just a couple thousand numbers older than mine, mine being S 272XXX.
Congrats and good shooting.

BigChuck: Outstanding purchase of a real workhorse. IMHO, start with 38 special loads to get a muscle memory feel of the trigger in both SA and DA. Then graduate to a mid-level 357 mag load before jumping in on the maximum loads. I think you will be very pleased with the accuracy of everything you shoot thru your new handgun. Be aware that the different loadings will shoot to different POIs. Adjust the sights for the loading that you will be using as everyday ammo. There is just something about the 357 mag. in a 'N' frame. Get the right grips for your hand and enjoy. ..........

Great gun, great price. I traded away my S prefix several years ago and have been looking for another at a price like that ever since. Seems like every time I get rid of a gun,I almost immediately start looking for a replacement. What's up with that?

Great revolver! Mine shipped in '67, so our #s are probably pretty close. I have a 6", and paid $550 for it around 5 yrs ago, so I think you did pretty well. They pull in some crazy prices these days. Enjoy!

I know the feeling. When I joined the Forum, I had two M629 revolvers and four L-frame 357 magnums. The "Just One More" fever struck (my wife also became infected ), and we now have about 30 S&W revolvers, a set of L-frames, her set of M-19s, a set of 44 mag N-frames, and strays that were a "good deal" .

It got so good, I don't even look at GunBroke any more except to view completed auctions to see how my investments are appreciating.
