MODEL 13-1 BACK FROM AMERIGUN
All,
I received my 1975-vintage Model 13-1 from Chris McVety at Amerigun late last week. After the obligatory tear-down, cleaning and polishing, here's the result.
I really like the brushed blue (400 grit?) that his refinishing guy did. In addition to the blue, he installed a front Tritium blade. These old guns had the front sight pinned-in, so it was a simple matter of replacing the front sight. He also made an 11-degree muzzle chamfer to aid accuracy and protect the rifling.
The grips are ones purchased on ebay and were sent back to 'Dee' at Herrett's where she checkered, re-shaped (from the Roper profile to the Trooper's rounded shape) and re-oiled them in Tung oil.
The trigger was done by the folks at Mag-Na-Port. They do a passable job of raidusing triggers. I will have them most likely do their 'Mini-Bob' on the Service Hammer to make it more friendly to the web of my hand.
I'll post a range report when I come back from Sweden in a couple of weeks.

Looks nice. My 13-1 shows its age but shoots very well.
What does a nice re-blue service like yours usually cost?

The last two model 13s I owned didn't have a pinned sight. Do you know if this guy can do a tritium on a model 28-2 that has the nonpinned sight? I love the 28-2, but the sights stink. I'd love a tritium front with one of those rear fixed sights to replace the adjustable.

How much for the re-finish?
I want to get my 28-2 redone at some point.

It used to be that folks customized their revolvers to suit them, I like to see that. Your a shooter!
Very nice K frame and well thought out improvements.

That is some great looking work. Good for you that your gun had the pinned front sight, everything came together to make a great wheelgun better.

All,
On vacation in Stockholm. The price was $360 complete. Yes, they can do any revolver. They have my 15-6 that will have the same blue and an SDM .250" Gold Dot front. These guys rock. Hope that helps.

That is one fine looking carry gun... not too fancy to carry and shoot but with just enough personalization to make it your very own. I bet it will shoot as well as it looks!

Guys,
Just got back from the range in the beautiful city of Poway, CA. The Model 13-1 (and the 67-1) shot very good with my load of choice, the R-P .38 Special 125gr Golden Saber +P. She does about 985-1015 fps out of a four-inch barrel. She also shot to PoA with the .38 Special 135gr Gold Dot +P.
I'm very happy that she's clocked correctly for windage and doesn't have any issues. I found that a "proud" sight picture with the front sigt is necessary for PoA-PoI shots. That is, a slightly "proud" font sight in the rear sight channel makes it nearly perfect.
There were no FTFs or any other maladies that represented themselves. All in all, she's a shooter. I will call the "Gun Spa" in Springfield next week to see if they'll take her in for some end shake correction. Not too bad (.002-.004"), but something I want to have fixed now, while it's not a big issue.
Very happy with my Military and Police...

I just purchased my first set of grips from Herrett's. All of the sets I have (4/ea) were purchased from ebay. I did the hand tracing and sent it in. Dee is the maestro. She will take your tracing, re-size them as appropriate and refinish. Normal cost for her work is approx. $50. Not bad for a custom set of grips.
I just ordered a set of new Jordan Troopers in figured Walnut for my 150-series Ruger Security Six (1972). She's the next gun project...

Raylan,
I'm very happy with it. I have all sorts of Smiths. I saw your picture on your post. I have a bunch of semi-autos too. My 39-2 and 659 are being modernized by Karl Sokol in Vermont. He's done my 5906 and 645 previously. Once the guns are done, he'll get my hybrid 915 with 5906 slide for his work.
With that said, I'm a big revolver guy and have several other gun projects in the works. My 10-6 HB is being refinished at S&W now. New blue, chamfer of charge holes and check-up for $260 isn't so bad. When she comes back, she go to Amerigun for a new Tritium front sight.
Thanks for the kind words.

It is addictive. I can't get enough of them. I've been selling all my other brands and filling the safe with 1-3 gens and pre lock revolvers. Love them.
