Questions on Model 25-5
LGS has a 25-5, 6" bbl. Is this the model that has the oversize cylinder throats? It has T hammer and Trigger, but no box. Very nice condition, asking $849, with tax and transfer it comes to over $900. Seems like too much. What do more knowledgeable folks say? Thanks, Ken

Large diameter throats are not associated to a specific engineering revision
You will need to measure
However for no box and in only very good condition, I think the price is too high. At least it is if you are living in a FREE State of the Union
If you are in one of the Draconian states that might be a reasonable number

I have two and my opinion is the price is right.
I haven't heard there is a serial number break or date at the point when the cylinder throats were tightened.
Also, in my opinion, that doesn't matter. What I think DOES matter is what you want to do with the gun. My limited experience is that unless you're shooting bullseye competition you won't be unhappy with the accuracy. If they are significantly inaccurate, I think it means you have a faulty gun, maybe the cylinder, maybe not.
Testing the chamber throats is easy. Get a bullet that is .452" and one that is .454. In mine, the .452 goes through, slightly sticky in a couple, the .454 does not go through. My guns are as accurate as I can shoot them.
If you load your own ammo, problem solved. Use the bigger bullet.
These are my late '70s 25-5s, and my 625 Mountain Gun, all in .45Colt.

Yes, too much. But when will you find another "very nice" one for less? I'd go back with cash and attempt to buy it for a little less than the offered price; works most of the time. In my very limited experience, 25-5s higher than N900000 have .452 throats. As Harkrader says though, the throat diameter really isn't much of an issue. I have them in "undersize" and "oversize" and don't really see any difference in accuracy. Good luck.

Price seems in line with what's been advertised on this site, and even low compared to Gun-stealer, er I mean, 'broker'.
Not sure about the throats, but as mentioned, if you reload it's not an issue.

I bought my 25-5, 6 or seven years ago with the box for $600.00. I see them now for $900.00+. I have a pinned 6" barrel and I think it has the oversized cylinder, I must check, but I didn't know of nor did I notice any accuracy problem at all. It's a great shooter. One of my favorites.

As a general rule of thumb, S&W fixed the cylinder throats around the same time they eliminated the barrel pin. But this isn't a hard and fast rule. Best to do the the bullet drop test to be sure. But even then as others have mentioned, the big throats don't always mean poor accuracy. The only way to really know is to shoot it.
I think the price is a bit high. I'd haggle a bit.
