very cool piece Dave. so its a N frame but has neither an "S" nor "N" serial number. Based on the the production timeframe its would have been an "N" prefix, right? Are their other guns that have a "S&WXXXX" type SN?

All of the 125th Anniversary guns (all 10,000) have similar serial numbers. These are from 1977 (or there abouts) and are 25-3 and there are 50 25-4 models which are deluxe versions engraved with ivory grips.
I should probably edit the title as this really isn't a pinto, I wasn't thinking.

Thanks Bill.
Are the grips Rosewood or Goncalo? I find them very attractive and better than most I have seen on 25-3s.

Those stocks are darker than most of the 25-3s I've seen. I really LIKE that second cylinder in nickel which is numbered to the gun. Do you know the history of the 45 ACP cyl.? I 'd be curious what the length each of the cylinders is? The 45 Colt cylinders in 25-3s are a bit shorter than the ones in 25-5s.

Good to know. Thank you. I dont recall ever seeing a similar SN. Granted my S&W interest has been of recent but still I have looked at a lot of guns and read a lot online. I am guessing these 10,000 guns dont see the light of day, nor come up for sale very often. What models and variations were sold as part of the 125th special run?
thanks

According to Mr. Jinks, it didn't ship from the factory that way, but was returned to the factory to have the factory .45acp cylinder fitted (and serial numbered) to the gun. Note the corrugated cardboard packaging that was made to specifically hold a cylinder.
I'll have to pull the gun from the safe to measure the cylinders. I might get to it at some point in 2015 (pretty busy around here) and will update the thread when I do.

I believe I have heard Roy say these 125th anniversary guns were one of his projects/ideas back in the 70s.
