Model 25-2 Four Figures?
I have a S&W model 25-2 that has magna grips, I believe original to the piece. It has a target hammer and trigger. I cannot see any wear of the bluing, even on the ends of the barrel. The only flaw I see is that someone ground off the ridges of the trigger to make it smooth. It doesn't have a box. I'm thinking of selling it to a buddy. I'm seeing them offered for sale at various prices starting at just under a grand. Is 4 figures a realistic asking price?

First, those magna grips would need to be numbered to the gun for anyone to believe they're original(and/or a letter from Roy Jinks). Second, a ground down trigger is NOT a value plus. Finally, no box, docs or tools cools the price further.
If you strongly feel the gun commands four figures, you should put it on Gun Broker and prove it.

AS described and if the stocks do not number to the gun I would say thats high. But like ^^^ said. Sell it on GB and see what kind of bids you get. You can always put the reserve at or a little above where you think it should sell. If it get bids way lower you will know. If it sells...good for you. AS for your buddy, what is he willing to pay as opposed to what you want to sell it to him? If he's a good friend you will want to sell at fair market value. Pics would be very helpful as well as whether the stocks are matching The trigger is not going to help.

It likely had Target stocks from the factory, and both they and an unaltered trigger can be fitted to the gun so it will be stock.
I suspect $1K + is a bit high - if you search GB for completed auctions that 'sold' for this model, you'll probably find they go for somewhat less.

Does it have a S-prefix? That will help in value in my opinion.

Before anybody else piles on, I am going to offer it to him for considerably less than 4 figures (happy now), but when looking at prices on GB and Cabela's, I was surprised to see so many high asking prices. I don't collect. I have shooters, and that's what I would sell this as, and that suits his interests as well. I am just interested in just how good a deal, I'm letting him have. BTW, the serial number is N614XXX. After further review, there is a small spot missing blue at one side of the barrel. I'd say the bluing overall is 98%. There is a slight wear ring on the cylinder. The stocks aren't numbered to the revolver, but there is a series of numbers stamped on the inside of the stocks on one side.

Thanks. I have another 25-2 and it does have the target stocks, TT and TH. When I told my buddy that I would be selling this one, he said that he didn't like the S&W target stocks and if he bought it, he would probably put some other stocks on it, like Hogues.

That's what I thought it might be worth. I'll probably offer it to him for less.

If your friend doesn't want the target stocks, don't let them go for no value. Good ones are getting almost impossible to find. Here's ragged out pair for $150.
S&W N-frame factory walnut smooth target stocks : Pistol Grips at GunBroker.com
Used to be able to buy TH, TT, and TS in blister packs. S&W made vendors take spares and S&W logo'd stuff as a condition of getting the good stuff (Model 29's). No more.

Is It a 4" or 6" gun?
Is it nickel or blued.
$1000 for a nice N Frame is not outside of a reasonable realm, especially if it is a 4" 25-2. There just aren't that many of them out there.
I would be hesitant about asking a friend that much for the gun though. Can you swap something instead? Maybe he has a 1911 or a 27?

It just has the small magna stocks, not the target stocks.
