Buddy picked up a 6" Model 629-4 over the weekend. Beautiful condition and came with original box-no papers, tools, etc.

Was hoping to find an approximate date of manufacture. Ser. # BRC1468 on butt of grip. another number on the side of the grip frame-21254136.

Any info. would be appreciated! Thanks

Looks to be about June 1994. Others here keep track of SN data privately and may get you the real month . Hope this is helpful.

Since you've got the box, what's the four-digit number under "Spec. Ord."? While you're at it, what's the six-digit product code?

Product Code: 103606 Spec. Ord.: 3356

Ship date is December 22, 1993.

103606 is a 6-inch square butt (SB), probably came with Hogue rubber grips, a target hammer (TH), a red ramp front sight (RR), and a white outline rear sight (WO).

This gun is the earliest M629-4 I've ever seen, irregardless of barrel length. Previously, my earliest was a 3-inch dated March 25, 1994.

The 3356 means it was ready to ship (usually close to the sales or ship date for a popular gun) on December 22, 1993. The Product Code is for the standard 6" model 629 from 1984-'98 per the reference book, so it obviously covered more than one engineering change ("dash number").

I want to thank you all for the info., He went to a local seller to look at a 4" Ruger GP100 in SS and saw the M629 and forgot all about the Ruger! He's been wanting a Model 29/629 for a while and he got this one for $725 OTD. I hope he got a good deal, most around here are advertised for $950. He's happy, no matter! :-)
