Default Model 66 Indiana State Police

A close friend of mine gave me his model 66 no-dash issued to him when he became a state trooper.
The serial is 7K13975 and the sights are also stainless.
Could someone please give me the manufacture date and any info on it.
I seem to remember there was an internal galling problem with early 66's with stainless internals.
It has ISP seal on the right side and came in a presentation case.
Thank you.

I'm sure those in the know here will be along shortly with some dates for you. In the meantime, I'd love to see some pics of your 66. I bet a few others here would too.

Serial number dates it to 1974. I too would love to see photos.

1974 seems too late to still have the all stainless (white metal) adjustable rear sight, doesn't it? SCSW 3rd only states that "[f]irst production models are found with a stainless steel rear target sight rather than black...."

Question

Is it a 6 inch barreled revolver?
I ask because the issue gun was a four inch and the ISP presentation cased (that I've seen) ones were six inch revolvers.

The revolver has a 4" barrel and was issued to the trooper. It has never been fired. I'll charge up my camera batteries and take some pictures.

Could it have been given to him when he retired? Some agencies will give a retiring officer their duty gun in a presentation case as a retirement gift. Of course they will have their armorer give it a good going over and thorough cleaning that will make a person think it hasn't been fired.
