Dummy model 58
Smith & Wesson "Dummy" model 58 .41 magnum ( PR21775 ) - Collectors Firearms
I ran across this while reading an unrelated thread. Has anyone ever inspected one of these things? It is listed as a training piece, but I do not know what type of training scenario it would be useful for. It seems more like a salesman's sample. However, it appears to be completely finished and fitted like the real thing with case colored trigger and hammer and nicely fitted side plate. Since the action does not function, it has no turn line! I wonder what is going on (or not) under that side plate.
The link stalls for me when I try to open it, but eventually does. YMMV.

I have briefely looked at that thing.
But for what they want for it you can get a really nice used real one. So why bother

I know of instances when the factory put together guns for catalog photography. Those pieces were never intended to leave the plant. It would be interesting to see the type style of the "DUMMY" to see if it is typical of the factory stamping.

That seems more likely than it being built for a training piece. You certainly could buy a nice shooter for half that. But, if you had an extensive m58 collection, this would be a great addition.

I'd much rather have the real deal for that money.

These were called "Convenience Store Specials" and were for legal sale only to criminals and convicted felons in New York.

You'd feel like a dummy if you bought one and took it to the range. Looks nice, though.

Training piece?
The action and cylinder does not function? How is it a training piece. What kind of training does it do? Holster draw maybe? Aiming? I don't get it?
