I'm now an owner of a29-2! How'd I do?
A few days ago I traded straight up a 15-4 snub and a 442-1 for this fine 29-2 Dirty Harry 44 mag! I'm in love! Will definitely be trying her out this weekend! http://smith-wessonforum.com/attachm...1&d=1434073195

I'm being critical, but that gun wore Hogue's for a long time by looking at the damage to the finish on that side plate. I would have passed on the deal myself.

As long as you're happy with it, that's all that matters. I would have made the deal, no problem...

I'd make that trade, but if I really wanted a nice 15-2 and a 442, I'd probably make that trade as well. You ended up with an icon, and a pretty nice one.

I think you did well.
The Side plate has some wear on it, but It's a gun, not an art-piece. This way you won't worry about shooting it.
That is the Quintessential Smith and Wesson. Their Number One Icon, in that EXACT Configuration.
You did well!

I would have made that trade in a heartbeat, you traded two common guns
for an extraordinary gun. I have a 29-2 that I wouldn't take $1000 for, and
it's a shooter grade.
The fact you have the original target grips is a plus, the grips are pricey and getting pricier...
In two years, pinned and recessed Smith & Wessons will be out of sight price wise. Model 29's will be leading the pack in that price war.....

You did good. Of course I am a 44 freak so I think everyone should trade for a 44. -2's are great examples.

Congrats!! I have a 29-3 I would not get rid of for anything. Extremely accurate, and I actually love the target grips.

I think it's a great looking .44. I'm sure some wax will make it look even better. Prefer real revolvers!
I'm bailing now...

"I'm in love!"
Based on your comment I'd say you did fine. If you're happy that's all that matters and any other opinions are immaterial. I'd say the monetary value was near even on the trade and now you have a gun you really wanted instead of two that you were willing to trade. Winner.
Wow, sometimes I amaze myself with the level of my own wisdom.

I think you did just fine. I'd ditch a modern day Airweight faster than you could say "modern day Airweight". Don't think the 15-4 was any great loss, either...just another snub nose. You now have an iconic S&W. I had one that I'd bought just as fast as I could find one after Dirty Harry was released. They're a kick to shoot with full loads...I predict you're gonna love it.

In this hobby it is all perspective on who got the better deal. IMHO you both did fine. You got a 44 mag and the other person got 2 revolvers carry guns.

jay,I married my wife 27 years ago. She had a few "scuffs and dings" then and she still has them now. More importantly, we still have each other.
So, you bought a life partner to love and cherish and....shoot! If you wanted a "Picasso" I guess you would buy art.You bought a functioning, working, using piece of art. You have an exceptional piece that you can enjoy and protect as well as it will protect you.[Darned near like a fine dog!]You got a great gun that you can enjoy for a lifetime and pass it to someone else for another lifetime.Man, IT Don't Get No Better than That!! Enjoy and don't worry about blue loss or any other "character" marks. They will be honorably earned, and you'll be able to sit in your chair and remember every earned "battle scar" Enjoy, Nick
