A LGS has a very nice Model 27-2 for sale. It's blue with 8 and 3/8 barrel. Has a Patridge front sight, target hammer, target trigger, and original grips. I'm no expert but would rate finish at least 95%. Comes with a presentation case that I have not seen. It has been fired. Shop owner purchased it from a collector. He is asking $800 for it. I talked to another collector yesterday who said it's a $1200 gun. Others have told me they would have bought it if it had 4 or 6.5 inch barrel. Are the long barrel guns less desirable? I'm a shooter, not a collector. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

The 35th BB Edition of Gun Values lists a 4 screw in 100% @ 1,050.00 and a 3 screw @ 850.00. Adding 10% for a 8 3/8 barrel.

With a "factory" presentation case in great shape...I'd buy it. I've paid that much for one without a presentation box.

The long barrel is fun one to shoot. We make em reach out there at the end of the day for some good fun.

Add 10% for the 8" barrel? Totally opposite of what I see to be true. The longer the barrel, the lower the price. Everyone wants the sexy 3.5" or the semi rare 4". I don't know anyone who would pay more for the long barrel.

The 27 has a tapered barrel so it's not as muzzle heavy as are the 41 and 44 Magnums. I find it handles nicely. Of course you better performance from Magnum ammo with a longer barrel. My 8" 27-2 is a shooting machine.

$800 sounds like a pretty good price to me. If really 95% no collector interest. On a common gun like this collector pricing is only on absolutely pristine examples.

I use one of my 8.375" pre-27s as a CCW. Not really, but I love the way that it shoots. I have lots of the short ones, lots of the medium ones and lots of the long ones - I love shooting the long ones the best. And I love the way that they look - all business, with a touch of elegance.

"Are the long barrel guns less desirable?" That is something you have
to decide for yourself. They sell for less than any other barrel length so
obviously they are less popular. I never thought I wanted one until I
got one. The 8 3/8" 27 barrel is tapered and gives the gun great
balance. If you are a shooter you will probably like it once you see
how accurate it is. That $800 asking price may be a bit negotiable on
the long barreled model.

I would be on it in a heartbeat, about 400$ under what they go for in this part of the world. Love the long tubes, set up some targets at 100 yards and have some fun.

I don't know if I would call that a "touch" of elegance. It looks like it was beat with a huge elegance stick!!! Awesome!
