Default Got a smile on my face. Newish 19-3 in my safe.

I was at an auction last week and saw a "S&W .357" on the auction list. That kind of got my tail wagging a little bit so I went over to look at it and what did I see? A nearly NIB 19-3 with the correct box and all the factory papers. Even had the bill of sale from a local hardware store dated 6-7-1977 and the hang tag with the price. There is just the faintest hint of a turn ring and no scratches at all.

When bidding started, I was ready. The fact that this particular auction house serves free beer and wine to registered bidders may have influenced my actions. Either way I am very pleased with my 19-3.

I have been a 19/66 fan all my life and now I have finally found a near perfect specimen. I am having the urges to cut in a red ramp and install white outline rear and maybe a spring kit, but I am going to leave it unmolested.

Just wanted to show some pics and get some feedback on how many are out there in this shape with box and papers. I know this is not "rare" but maybe it is uncommon.

Thanks!

Nice find! The serial number indicates it was made in 76' so 77' purchase date is appropriate. You didn't say how much you actually paid for it but if it's close to the $500 you did well.

Nice find. Especially with the box. In my opinion the 66/19 are the best looking Smiths made.

Very nice. The 4" model 19 has been on my list of guns that "I wish I woulda bought back then".

Instead, I went with a 6" 586. Another fine gun, but not a M19.

Nice. I currently own a 2.5" 19-4 and a 6" 19-3. The 4" model is also on my list.

Karn: All I want to know is if you're going to shoot it? It'd be a shame to stick it in gun prison. At any rate, it's a great gun.

I would have went up to $750 or so on that myself, as it is essentially a time capsule with all the bells and whistles. I'd possibly go higher actually.

It is beautiful, and regardless of what you got it for, getting one like that is not an easy thing to do, so it is very well bought.

Thanks for sharing.

Remember, you have to add in auction fees which are often 10-20% additional, and possibly sales tax. That adds up.
Sometimes a good deal ends up costing much more than you had planned.
