What type of finish did they use on the J frame light weight (aluminum frame) guns in the early 60s.

I have three from that general time area. All are nickel plated.

I have a Model 38 from about 1962 but it has been refinished in blue before I got it in the early '70s. It was the back-up to my Model 15 service gun.
