Default Am I off on the price of this model 37 ???

Hey guys,

I picked up a Mod. 37 in a trade and I think I may have over paid. Its got a couple marks on the barrel and on the cylinder but overall it looks better than in the pics below. I have about $450 in it. I need to at least get my investment back. Do you guys think its possible? It's SN makes it from 1981. Other than the finish everything else is perfect.

I am definitely not an expert on gun values, but I have a 37 made in 1968 that is rough to look at but, like yours, is great other than the finish on the barrel and cylinder. I got it for 200 bucks and a Raven .25. I carry and shoot mine quite a bit. They are nice carry guns. I wouldn't want to sell mine for that. Be hard to replace with one that I can depend on like I do mine. From what I have read on here, you may have over paid a bit.
Peace,
gordon

Thanks for the response. It actually looks much worse in the pics than in real life. But yes, I think I overpaid too. Let's see what others say.

That is near the top of the market for one like yours. But I don't think you got badly hurt. I suspect you will be able to get your money back out of it, if that's what you want. Personally, I'd probably hang onto it as a shooter and a possible carry piece.

You may have overpaid for it, but not enough to kick yourself or lose sleep. If the gun functions properly and you can shoot it within it's (and your) limitations, You have a nice carry piece that may save your life one day.

I think that people not looking for one could beat that deal, but if you were looking for one it wouldn't be a bad price.

Thank you everyone for your opinion. I just adjusted my price accordingly.

I'm not a wheel gun guy so I'm looking to unload it vs keep it

You can look at it like this. . .a brand new Smith J Frame will cost you about $400 out the door. You're better off with the older one. You did over pay. I go in for between $250 and $300 on ones in the condition that your gun is in; but, you did a lot better than going to the LGS and paying the four bills for a new one.

You know, maybe I'll sell my 442 and carry this as my occasional backup.

Used alloy frame revolvers often go at a pretty big discount unless they are collector grade.

As mentioned above, a new alloy J frame is around $400, and it comes with a lifetime warranty. Most people don't want to take the chance on a used gun for the same money when you don't know what kind of use (or possible abuse) it's seen, unless they can get it for a significant discount. This is especially true for a pre-lifetime warranty alloy frame gun.

The right buyer may pay $350 for this gun. An uninformed buyer may pay even more. It would have to be under $300 OTD for me to even consider it.

Based on what I see online at auction sites, I would not say this is a sub $400 gun. Reality is this gun looks like it has seen very little range time but too much holster time. It's insane how tight and nice this gun is mechanically.
