That's a purty one! Mine has seen a little more use than that one. Actually a lot more use.

I paid $450 for it - but mainly because I'm 99% sure it was one of the first batch made for the NYSP - you can see that the 13-1 model number was overstamped on top of the original 10-6 model number.

I still need to get it lettered to establish that though...

Congratulations. That's a really nice Model 13. I like the look of a Model 13 - all business.

There's a mild deviation in what the SCSW quotes as the year for your serial number and the years the 13-1 was produced. Serial # would date it to 1978.
The 13-1 was made 1974-1977.

Value questions are common at the S&W Forum. There seems to be a reluctance to respond to value questions probably for a number of reasons: regional differences, not wanting to offend, not wanting to be wrong, etcetera. It is an imperfect science to arrive at a value estimate. The most certain way to know value is to put it up for auction or offer it for sale and whatever it sells for is what it's worth. Some will say look at a standard reference like the Bluebook of Gun Values although I do NOT find it an extremely helpful reference. Others will say look for successful sales on the internet or at this site or on-line auction sites like Gun Broker or Gun Auction. A closed auction offers some objectivity. Listings on Gun Broker are presented to a large audience and would more likely bring a premium price. It might be bring less in a face to face transaction compared to Gun Broker? There are posts at this forum regarding how to use Gun Broker to research sale prices of guns. A quick check of Gun Broker reveals 42 closed auctions (some duplicates that didn't sell) the past few weeks for Model 13-1's S&W's with 7 total sales. Here are the sales on Gun Broker:
$395 - good to very good original condition
$400 - very good condition with leather holster & rubber stocks
$440 - good to very good condition; nickel; rubber stocks
$500 - very good original condition
$600 - excellent original condition in original box
$629 - nickel with box
$675 - excellent original condition with leather holster

Using the above information I might suggest roughly a $500 value.
