Would somebody look at thier catalog for a ship date?

Serial #- 2D383XX (off of a box label)

I am out of town for a couple weeks and am unable to look it up.

Your revolver would have been manufactured in 1977

The only way to get the actual shipping date is requesting a Historical letter from the factory.

No, it does not

Firearms did not ship in serial number order, so it takes the S&W Historian to look them up for an actual ship date.

Obviously, odds are almost certain that serial number 1234 was made on the same day a 1233 and 1235. If not the same day, adjoining business days

I have a revolver that shipped from the factory 30 years after it was manufactured. Naturally this is an extreme example, my revolver was part of the S&W Factory Collection

The SCSW3 has a listing of "ranges" where various models shipped. Sometimes these ranges are many years, and only by getting several different #'s and finding their dates can you "extrapolate" a guesstimate.
