These are the first pair I bought a few months ago on my Model 27-2. I'm going to put these on my 4" Model 28-2 and the other Classics on my soon to be new 4" 25-5.
The French Walnut grips with the ribbon checkering will be going on the Model 27-2.

The "Official" term for that type of stock is a Roper. John Culina makes them and Keith Brown makes them too. John and Keith use nicer type of wood with special grain and figuring than the original Ropers that were made back in the day. An original set of Ropers is probably huge money if you can find it.
I don't know a lot about them, but I believe they were pre World War II in their hey-day. If you poke around the 1896-1960 sub forum, there are bound to be some threads in there if you dig.
Keith Brown and John Culina chime in from time to time in some of those threads too.

My Model 28 has a new pair of shoes
Well, I got my Classic checkered Ziricote grips from Culina mounted up on my finished Model 28. Action and sight work all done and it shoots very well indeed (at 50 yards with Remington 125 grain Golden Saber 357). The shot in the direct sun shows the grips nicely while the shot in the shade shows the gun itself better.

Keith, those look really nice mounted. It goes to show that people shouldn't follow rules of only putting light grips on blues or dark grips on stainless/nickel because just about anything goes. It depends on what the gun owner's taste is and wants! :-) The dark on dark look works!
