Default Corrosion care for nickel 29-2?

I need some advice for my nickel 29-2. I've owned it a little over a year now, and it's my first nickel S&W ( I have several others - blued).

What's the best way to clean and prep it for storing in my gun safe?

I ask because I pulled it out last night (after several months) and it had a patchy, white "dusty" corrosion on one side of the barrel & cylinder - the side that rests on the blue felt in it's box.

The last time I had it out, I lightly oiled it, then polished it off with a clean dry gun cloth.

All the other guns & handguns were in perfect condition, as usual, so I'm dismayed about this nickel 29.

Any advice would be appreciated.

PS: I was able to easily remove the dusty patches by lightly rubbing it off with "Never Dull" (a soft cotton batting chemically treated to polish bright metals - silver, brass, chrome, etc...). It now looks like new, with NO pitting, tarnish, etc.

Thanks y'all. ~Zano

Oil it or wax it,but don't store it in the box.If you want to protect it from dings, bore stores work well

Interesting you said that, because only the bottom side of the finish that touched the box had the dusting on it.

For some reason, I intuitively felt compelled to leave the lid open when I put it away, and that side was clean & shiny.

It never occurred to me that keeping it in the box would cause an issue... lesson learned.

Thank you friend.

I just read through four other archived postings on the same subject. Looks like I'll be avoiding Hoppes #9, and, buying some Renaissance Wax!

Thanks everyone. ~Zano

I wax all my handguns after cleaning, especially my nickel plated ones.

Polish it sparingly with a good metal polish such as Flitz. Then wax it. I have always ised Johnson's Paste Wax for my guns. Just as good as the Renaissance wax, and vastly less expensive.
