I'm a little lost on my 28-2
I bought a 6 inch 28-2 the other day. It is nickel / chrome .....not sure. In all my reading the only nickel came from Florida PD and in 5in. The ejection star looks blued. S# S244236

Some pics are necessary for any type of evaluation. You have the talent right here on the Forum.

Lets wait for some pics. Maybe it is not nickel. Mod-28s were an econo
357 carry/work gun. Everything was done to these old work horses as far
as mods/finish. The OP is at work, he will come back.

I doubt if your 28-2 was shipped with a nickel finish. The ones sent to the Florida HP are all 4-screw revolvers and the ones shipped in 1972 have serial numbers beginning with the letter N and a 4-inch barrel.

That nickel looks good on your 28, but I never heard of a Factory bright nickel 6" except for the FHP versions.
BTW, your M28 frame was likely manufactured in 1964.
The FHP guns were 5" barrel, SN ranged between S189071 - S192687 and apparently only 25 were made in this configuration.

The old standard answer was that the biggest difference between the Model 27 and its cheaper sibling the Model 28 was the level of finish, and since a nickel finish would be pretty much the same on both, it was reserved for the higher priced variant. That said, your 28 sure looks like it had a factory nickel job OR one that was done when the gun was fairly new by someone who really knew what they were doing. Have you considered lettering it?

That is a quality nickel job but the lack of an "N" and the fact that the rear sight was nickled give it away as an aftermarket application. I recommend not wasting money on a factory letter and just enjoying this excellent example of a good gun for what it is.

What does the H mean on the cylinder mean?

Probably not factory original but very nice. I don't think you can go by the N stamp on all of these. I'm pretty sure I remember reading that some did not have them.
Here is my 4". Not original but one of my favorites.

Only a very small number of 28s were factory nickel plated and none were in 6" barrel length. I have seen dozens of plated 28s offered by sellers who steadfastly maintained they were original. No, they were not.

Thanks guys. A little background on how I got it.
I had this beautiful mint German Sig 228 that I could shoot worth a darn. After a few attempts I realized it wasn't ment to be so I went to sell it. Knowing full well it would not be a hard sell seeing as German Sigs are kinda collector items. I also brought along a HK USP 40. It was a good gun, police issue in its former life but between the trigger and the caliber I couldn't shoot it accurately either and seeing as I already had a USP 9 that i love and and a HK P2000 in 40 that is one of my favorites. So....took both to the gun store and as I thought the Sig was easy and I got what I wanted for it but they didn't want the HK USP 40 . Too hard to sell they said. At that time I spotted the 28-2 and after examining it we to an agreement on a trade .....the HK + cash for the 28-2
The thing is a year before I passed on two 28s with 4 in barrels for under $500ea. 4 inch is more practical but now I can watch the Walking dead with the 6 inch 28 (it's not the Colt but close enough)

Glad to see the nickel finish is growing on people. Let's not tell everyone how freaking awesome it is. We need to hoard these. Those two would look great in my little nickel collection.
Congrats on all the nickel finish N Frames here. Don't tell anyone the N Frames rock in any finish.

I was told it is from 1965. Can anyone verify that?
