Default 17-3 Question (not price)

I've run across a few Smith's that a local seller has. I will be seeing them tomorrow. One is a 17-3 8 3/8" with box, etc. From the one picture I've seen it looks as though it has had very little use. My question is concerning the stocks. It has dark smooth targets on it. I cannot find any info for these stocks on this firearm.

Does anyone know if a 17-3 would ship with this type of stock?

Thanks for your help.

Those would not be the normal grips, most were magnas. But with S&W who knows. Could have been ordered that way.
If they are nice I sure wouldn't let that stop me from getting it.
Dark smooth targets? Could they be rosewood? Even better!

The 17-3 was made 1967 - 1977.

S&W Plain Target stocks, a.k.a. Smooth Target stocks, could have conceivably been original to the gun. The end label might be marked ST in the STOCK section of the end label if Smooth Targets stocks were original to the gun? During the time frame of the 17-3 the Target stocks, be they smooth or checked, would be "relieved" with a recess in the upper left grip to provide extra clearance when extracting spent cartridges. Usually a 17-3 would come with Magna (smaller) or checked Target stocks.
