19-3 Question
I'm looking at this nickle 19-3 but the grips are a bit of a turn off. What would have been the original grips? Checkered walnut?
Nickle guns are scarce up here so I might just go ahead with it and look for period correct grips afterwards.
Does anyone have an opinion on value? The asking price is about the equivalent of $550 USD

I don't think you could go wrong with a set of Target stocks with the extractor relief cut ("Football Targets").
I note that the book says the diamond was deleted from the center of the stocks during the run of the Model 19-3. So with or without diamonds could be correct.

I'd say that's about average price for a 19 in average condition around here, even with the rubber grips.
Jack's already got you lined up on the grips. I've found them on E-bay.

A nice set of wood grips would certainly look good on that fine looking M-19, but those Pachs are not bad grips for use and shooting. My duty weapon was a slightly earlier model of the same gun, blued of course. The wood grips that came on it were pretty bunged up after dealing with seat belt buckles and door frames and a few scuffles down on the asphalt. I installed a set of the Pachs, again an earlier model that did not have the relief on the left grip to facillitate speed loaders. The Pachs were not the best looking grips around, but after many more years of hard use as described above, they still looked as good and worked as well as they did the day they were newly installed. If you are going to shoot that revolver (you are, aren't you?), I'd give those Pachs a try before binning them. They might just work pretty well for days at the range for you. There are other styles of Pachs these days that might fit you better than those, but those will closely match the wood Targets that were available for the m-19 at the time this one hit the street. Nice gun, and the price, while maybe not a steal, is a very representative price for an M-19 in any kind of decent condition today.

Obviously, if asking price is $550, see if you can get it down. The rubber grips detract from value, but would not stop me from buying it. Grips can normally be found at reasonable prices. How are the mechanics? Bob

Seller reports good mechanics and he found a set of football targets he replaced the Pachs with. The ask was 750 CAD plus shipping and tax (13% here....guy is a licensed dealer and has to charge it) That would have worked out to about 875CAD total with shipping (around 660 US)
I got him to do 750 (or about 562 US at today's rate) tax in shipped to my door. I think it's a decent deal for around here. Nickle guns are scarce and don't come up too often.

Pretty nice. If it hasn't been abused you could have a great shooter for hunting or target. BTW, got its twin in my holster.

Sailor for the price I think you did quite well, specially as nickle guns can be hard to locate in your area. Have fun shooting it.
Added: a little time with some Feltz polish and that guy should look real good.
