Default Model 36

I just bought a model 36 square butt with a 3" barrel. I can't seem to locate the serial number in the Standard catalog of Smith & Wesson. It is 48J***, thanks.

I don't have the SNs memorized like some folks - but I do have the SCSW at home. Query - is this the number on the base of the grip?

Also, you can write out more of the number - most folks do these days I think.

Its the floating J serial number. They were done in 1971-1972 I believe. Its listed in the SCSW under the J serial preface, not the early J prefix.

I've got one just like it.

A terrific shooting little gun. You'll really enjoy it.
