More magnum goodness picked up from a local GS, via an estate lot. A 6" 29-2 with TT, TH. The grips are from Ebay....

Muddyboot- I believe your 29-2 has a 6.5" barrel. That was standard until 1979 when they went to 6" barrels. I think full target options were standard on the 44 Magnums from the beginning.
Frangible- The stocks on your 29-2 would be 1967 or earlier. Stamped Mod 29? You sure it's from 1968? Sounds like it's from 1959 or 1960.

Frangible that's a really nice 44 Magnum. What is the Serial number? Starts with an N?
I'm curious about the diamond Targets as Saxon noted.

Time Capsule 29
A really handsome revolver Muddyboot! I have an 8 3/8" 29-2 I really enjoy. But my favorite and only other 44 Mag is my Model 29 4", SN S1932xx, from late fifties. Purchased allegedly unfired from a little old lady several decades ago, pix shows the factory protective lubricant it still wears! Something of a time capsule!

@ SaxonPig: I posted this Gun in an other Thread before, it`s a misstamped 29-2, they forgot the dash2. Serial No.is S 299633.
@ 19leben:I purchased the Cokes and the Gun fom a German Auction Site in 2 separate Deals.Gun has German Proof Marks from 69!

Stroupdr, that 5" makes me cringe to see it. Three or four years ago my S-I-L bought a gun collection from a guy that was kind of down on his luck. There were numerous custom rifles and about a dozen nice S&W revolvers, some pretty scarce.
I have been around guns for a long time and had never seen a 5" 29. I kept looking at it thinking it must have been cut at the factory as it was perfect in detail. I was in the process of writing the collection up for posting on gunbroker. That and photographing took a good bit of time. The price to me was right good, so I decided to take the 29 even if not original, a 5" 27, and a Win 71, nicely converted to .450 Alaskan. I drove over to the store. Some guy had come by and bought the whole collection, including the rifles.
Woe is me. Since reading this forum regularly, I have seen a few 5" inch 29s. I had never run across one before.

Frangible- I assumed the stocks were original to that gun. Yes, mistakes on the model numbers are common on S&W revolvers.

Here's mine, a 1976 vintage 4" 29-2, with some replacement "Football Cutout" target grips I picked up for it:

Most days it wears Magna grips, it shows a good bit of holster wear. A great shooter and field revolver, I love it....

I have a stamped 29-2, with the -2 overstamped with a -3. It is a 29-3, not pinned and recessed.

I have a weakness for 5" Model 29s..
The middle 29 is a -2 that I had built from an 8&3/8ths" gun. It is by far my favorite .44.
In fact I attended a small invitational revolver shoot on Saturday in Salmon Idaho. A sort of "Elmer Keith" match, and I ran my 5" 29-2, along with a 5" Classic DX.
It would be tough to find a more enjoyable way to burn powder, than with such guns.

I do believe that there were some 29-2's produced with 6" pinned barrels before the "-3" engineering change took place.

The S&W Letter arrived today, confirming it was shipped with a 6" barrel.
Shipping date was October 14, 1980 to Wammes Guns Inc., Bellefontaine, Ohio. Sadly, the Goncalo Alves target grips it shipped with did not come with the revolver.

I was looking through this old thread, and noting that the pic of my 5" gun is ***** thanks to photbucket.
As far as the 29-2s and barrels go, they came in both 6.5 and 6". I have a single example of both. Great length for field guns.
