Default 66 No Dash information wanted

I found a 4" 66 no dash with pinned barrel and recessed cylinder. It looks pretty good to me and I'd appreciate any information about it that someone could tell me. It appears to have a very good trigger pull, not much play in the cylinder and not much holster wear or flaws at all. It has a very shiny finish.
Thanks in advance,
John

You're a little vague. What do you want to know?

What the value is mostly? I see no dashes that are not pinned also. What is the difference and is one more sought after than the other?

What is the serial number? Does it have a stainless steel rear sight? Pictures help. Condition is everything. What type of stocks? Box? Papers? Tools? Generally the original finish is matte. It would be unlikely that a no dash would not have a pinned barrel.

It has a black rear sight. Definitely not brushed or Matt finish. No box or papers. Pachmyr grips. I don't have the serial number.

It has likely been polished outside the factory. These were made during the pinned barrel era, so an original model 66 should not have an unpinned barrel. Some would take value off for non-original finish and others like the shiny look. Call it a $500-550 or so gun if mechanically sound.

^^^This. I've been told you "never say never" with S&W but an unpinned M66 no dash would be as close as it gets.

Dash numbers denote an engineering change within a model number. Not all dash numbers indicate the same change. For instance a model 686 no dash has an unpinned barrel.

Default M66 N/D Dilema

Taking a picture always helps to make a hesitant decision on. This is a M66 N/D I picked up on GB minus the Ahrend grips for $475 early this year. I did some cosmetic work to bring it back to it's former glory. "BUY IT NOW"

Here's something to know, thats as good a revolver as anything ever made by S&W. Well maybe a registered magnum but anyway it's a gem. I have two 66 no dashes and it would take some hard $$$$ to get me to part with them.

Well, that isn't much of an example, since none of the L frames ever had a pinned barrel. And that is a "never."

But you are correct that a Model 66 should have a pinned barrel. The Model 66 was replaced by the 66-1 in 1977 and the pinned barrels did not go away until 1982. And that one was associated with a dash change (to the -2).

My point was that a dash number on one model doesn't necessarily indicate the same change as the same number on a different model...
