Cosidering Model 19-2 purchase; need info
Have an opportunity to pick up on a trade a very nice Smith Model 19-2 w/4" bbl, target grips, hammer, and trigger that appears to be in 90% or better condition. Serial number is K-657-XXX which, I believe places manufacture date in 1965. Revolver comes with original paperwork and blue, corner reinforced, factory box. What would experts say is value of this revolver. Here's a pic.....

P&R = Pinned bbl and recessed chambers in cylinder, right? Desirable features, no?
Since I'm located in California, I suspect the values are going to be somewhat inflated.

I wanna move to north Texas because here in southern Maryland if that beauty was in a gun or pawn shop case a grand wouldn't be enough. Dash twos don't come up much and this one is gorgeous!

I would say in the $500 to $700 range, but with all the goodies, $800+ would not be unreasonable.

I'm in Cali....that's a $850-950 gun (w/box) here if sold on popular forums. From what I've seen on Gunbroker, maybe $750-850 nationally.

Just an opinion.
The revolver and stocks (grips) appear to be in excellent original condition. It looks better than the 90% you mention with desirable features of 3-T's. Assuming the box is numbers matching and looks original and indicates it came with the 3-T's, I think some of the higher estimates ($700-$950) are close to a reasonable face to face transaction value but would be at the low end.
At the other end or the spectrum, I would bet with good photos, on a Gun Broker auction I could imagine $1500+.
One just like this one but not as nice condition and without box and without target trigger and without target hammer sold for $1210 on a Gun Runner auction earlier this month as a point of reference.
Unless there is some outrageous price on it you'd best not dally too much.
What are they asking for it? If you're not interested in it please PM me.

At $5-700 I'd be all over it; bet it's more than that.

$850-$950 w/o box in CA isn't out of line for that piece. $550-$800 in most free places.

That gun will go over $1,000 on Gunbroker. No Doubt about it.

Target trigger and target hammer kill the deal for me, but that's a $700 handgun around these parts.

$750-$800 is what the hang tag would be in these parts, and then you negotiate. I saw a nice 19-3 recently for $750, I am sure they would have come down a little bit.
That is a sweet revolver.
Get it if you can.

What to pay for a M19-2 ?
There is a awful lot of talk of the P+R factor and box and papers etc. etc., what has not been touched upon is the unparalleled beauty of this revolver and the incredible trigger action not found on any revolver but a older S&W of this caliber, (pun intended). I am not that big a fan of paying an excessive amount for a box and paperwork but I think some of the numbers referred to in this thread are a little over inflated regarding these accessories. I know I may have gotten lucky although there was a bit of patience involved but I was fortunate to have purchased this gem from a fellow Forum member which makes the deal even sweeter as I was able to speak to him about the history of this fine M19-4 P+R TH TT. I purchased this fine revolver for just under $500 but would have paid more if it had been as high as $600-$650. The seller seemed happy and so was I so all is well. I should note I buy from GB primarily so I am accustomed to over priced S&W revolvers. Being from a small town there are not many options locally and as much as I don't care for some GB policies and lack of customer support you have to admit for the volume and variety it is worth paying a bit more. I also use GA and GI and for my first choice the classified here on the Forum. I think using the past purchases of M19's of this nature on GB using the advanced search would be a good reference point or if your lucky 5Wire has been tracking these and will chime in, he is my favorite source. This revolver did come with the original pair of target stocks but I had to replace them as they are to large for my hands so I went with the more slender moradillo Ahrends.

It's a Done Deal
We made the swap. I traded an Israeli surplus Hi-Power, 100 rounds of 9mm, and a 20 year old guitar amp that had been sitting in my garage for the last 10 years collecting dust for the featured Model 19. I think I did okay. The revolver looks even better in person. It is an honest 90% and probably closer to 95%. Old school bluing in gorgeous.
Thanks to all for your input.
