Finally found a nice No Dash Model 64.....
I got lucky last night and traded into one of my long time "Grail" guns, a S&W Model 64 with the thin "Pencil" profile barrel. This one is a M64 no dash.
This baby is in beautiful shape and looks as if it had hardly ever been shot. The target grips are nice, but I am going to put those away and look for a set of the standard "Magna" style service stocks, as I think they look better on this model. I dug around in my "Box O' holsters" and found an old Safariland holster for it.
I am not sure exactly how long this model was in production, but I know it was for only a couple of years in the early 70's.

Thanks! The holster was made by Safariland. It is their model 25.

Thanks!
I need to pick up a decent cartridge belt to complete the outfit. I can't wait to get her out to the range and see how she shoots....

My work had at least four of these. Now gone through retirements and some were probably cut up. Darn shame. Enjoy yours!

Hey mic214,
Puhhleeeese, don't tell me you found that in a LGS around here. That's exactly the gun I'm looking for. Congratulations to you sir!
I love those old Safarilands like yours. I bet it has green suede lining. I've got the same model and vintage for my Md 63. I also totally support changing out those targets for magnas.

D554XXX, the "pc magnas" number to the gun. They (64's) are just about perfect. Joe

I actually found it on FaceBook of all places. There is a "Firearms only" group that a lot of NM folks buy, sell and trade guns through. The guy that had this M-64 was looking to trade it for a 12 gauge shotgun for hunting turkeys. I happened to have a Mossberg Ulti-Mag sitting in the safe gathering dust, so we met up and did the deal.
Unfortunately, the Safariland holster is not lined, but it is still a great rig. I just need a proper belt to go with it. I have a buddy of mine who might have a set of Magnas for me. He is looking through his "Box O' Grips" to see if he can find them.........

Congrats on your 64! I have a 67 no dash, and a HB 64-3. Both shoot quite well. Herrett grips work well on a K frame too. (for me anyway) Enjoy your Smith! Bob

Thanks!
The target stocks on the pistol look brand new, so I threw on a set of Pachmayr grips until I can dig up a set of service Magnas for it.....

Yep IIRC, Standard Catalog says the pencil was dropped with the first change in '72.

Very nice early Model 64,
The Model 66 and Model 64 were introduced in 1970 basically a SS copy of the Model 19 and Model 10 which must have been S&W's top LEO market sellers.

I got a nice "Care package" from my old buddy today that contained a nice set of the Service Magna stocks for my Model 64. I think they look and feel much better than the larger target stocks on this pistol.
Next on my list for this baby is to pick up a Tyler 'T' grip.....

Congratulations on that (very nice) 64. My favorite revolver (heck, favorite hand gun of all), though I happen to prefer the 3" HB/RB flavor. Regardless, that is one fine looking hand gun.
I like the targets on that gun, myself. The regular magnas always look (and feel) far too "skinny" to me....although certainly the magnas are the "correct" stocks for that revolver.
