Talking NEW TO ME M10-5 & PRE-10

As the title states, while out looking for a M36 and considering a trade of my current M10 towards a M36, 3" (no deal made). I ran across these two guns: the M10 ($245 OTD) and the M&P ($274 OTD). I really wasnt in the market but couldnt put them down once I saw them. Needless to say I'll be up late cleaning and admiring my new toys.

Wow! Very nice! And in my opinion a good deal on both. They appear to be in very good condition.

Congratulations! I think you robbed the store on those. I haven't seen prices like that for some time. Two excellent choices. The M 36 will happen.

Model 10s become addictive. The addiction starts out slowly but builds to a head of steam. Don't look closely at 2" or 5" Model 10s you will not be able to resist.

Meat and potatoes gun for S&W for almost 100 years. Always room in my safe for one more. Nice snag on a twofer!

Anyone care to help me out on the "going rate" for these type guns. Both are shooters and not leaving my posession as I love to shoot them...just curious?

10-5: chipped grip, muzzle wear.
M&P: few scratches here and there some muzzle wear, side plate screws a bit boogered- wrong screwdriver
Both mechanically tight

I'd say the going rate is what about what you just paid for them. There are 6 million Model 10s out there. They're nice to have, but in shooter condition, they are "a dime a dozen."

The Model 10 was priced about right, but you could easily get 50 to 75 more for the pre-10 M&P if you were to put it up for sale nicely cleaned up and decently photographed.

I'd respectfully disagree on the Model 10. Based on the OP's photo it's a somewhat banged-up duty gun with several years of police service in the holster of a right-handed officer under its belt. Besides the muzzle wear, heavy bluing wear on the ejector rod (unless the lighting is playing tricks) and the right stock panel shows the classic plentiful battle scars. No comparison to yours. (And don't get me wrong, I actually prefer these old warhorses to minty ones.)

UPDATE...So this seems to be my week! Admittedly, I love all Smiths but sometimes you gotta let a few go to...sometimes sooner than expected!
I ended up trading both of these "rare bargin finds" on what I considered to be a no brainer. First up was a M36 no dash snubby in 98+ (no goodies) traded even for M10. Then traded the M&P for a M36 3" in ~85%. Extremely happy to turn what I consider bargins into, well....bargins that better suit my needs! image.jpg
