Initials stamped on my model 67....gunsmith maybe?
In close examination of my recently purchased model 67 I noticed some initials/Letters stamped just above the front of the trigger guard below the trademark. It looks like HDP, but not real clear, may have been scratched in as rather crude when viewed with a magnifier, but barely noticeable from any distance or in poor light. The gun was apparently modified from square to round butt and front and backstraps are stipled.........front sight has red insert, while the rear sight is stainless and barrel is pinned, whole gun is highly polished. Serial # 3K649XX. I'm wondering if the initials are those of a gunsmith that anyone might recognize.

The quality of the work appears to be well done. So I'm guessing that any gunsmith who did the work would have would have marked the revolver in a a more professional way.
HPD, could be a owners or some police department's markings.

No idea.
I have one like that; paid to have it cut to roundbutt back when that was the fad mod, now I am looking at round-to-square grips.

Look on the underside of the top strap. May have a set of numbers. Could be anything from the owner to a property room number.

If you are referring to the "P" inside a diamond. That is a proof mark.

I don't think it's a proof mark. It may be HPP or maybe just HP. It's right at the point where the front of the trigger guard meets the frame.
Thanx for the input

I have a 15-6 with initials and a number on the bottom of the trigger guard. Purchased from an on-line dealer who said the revolvers were security company turn-ins so I assume the initials are the person who carried it and the number is the badge/issue/inventory number. Don't know squat about yours, but that doesn't stop me from having an opinion.

Welcome to the forum! Your gun was polished at 1 time or another too. That does not make it bad in my book. My 67 no dash was also polished. 67's, shoot quite well! Enjoy it! Bob

Since you live in Maine, and Smith & Wesson has a factory in Houlton, ME...Houlton Police Department? You can call the PD and ask if they ever issued the model 67.

I knew the Walther ppk were being made in Houlton, ME, but was not aware that S&W revolvers were made there. I'll have to check that out. Thanx
