Model 15-2 snub
I have a 15-2 snub, sn K7982xx, ribbed trigger, target hammer. A little holster wear, slight turn line. When I received it, the revolver had rubber grips. What are the correct grips for this one and what is the manufacture date. I tried looking it up in the S&W book but got confused. Must be an age thing.

Grips should be "magna" which are standard grips that fit to the frame of the grip. The serial number should be in the mid-sixties range of years. Don't have my book close by. A google search or one of the other members will be able to pin it down for you.
The Model 15 - 2 are very good revolvers and the short barrel is very popular. They are one of Smith and Wesson's best .38 special caliber revolvers! Most of us model 15 aficionados are looking for the 2" bbl guns. They're some very nice adjustable sighted Smith and Wesson revolvers!

That would be a 1968 vintage. But it doesn’t count without pictures.

A 15 snub has been my wish/want list for a while! To me they look cool and are supposed to be good short barrel shooters. Put any square butt ( K/L) grips on it that feel good to you. Enjoy your 15, even though you did not post a pic or 2! Bob

The 2" is a 15-3 from Jun 74, and the 4" is a 15-2 from Jun 67.

I agree with bananaman, while the -2 should have the diamond checkered magnas to be correct mine came without them so I reluctantly put my favorite grips on 2 of these, Ahrends Retro Boot grips. I thought they may be to heavy but for non carry purposes these are perfect and don't feel like the skimpy boot grips you typically find. They give you great purchase and are also a perfect fit as all my Ahrends have been. I have since sold 2 of these 15's but kept the pair with the Cordia. I notice gripseller now has the boot grip in the tactical style which I would have purchased as I believe they would have make a better CC grip. The two boot grips in my photos are both retro boot grips, the reddish colored grip is a Caribbean rosewood.

Those are some good-looking grips, but a mite big for a snub.

Probably shipped about May/June 1968 and more correctly it would have shipped with PC magnas as in H Richard's pic.

To be more precise, they should be "PC" magnas. Square butt with the beveled bottom, rather than sharp-edged. Depending on whether the gun was mfgd prior to or after 1968,they might have diamonds around the escutcheon screw if prior.

In this picture you can see the rounded bottom of the PC (Plain Clothes) grips, which differentiates it from the standard Magna grips.

It ought to have magna service-type stocks. and a couple of ruberbands wrapped around them so you can carry it inside the waistband with no holster. The rubberbands keep it from slidind down your leg. Usually this was done with J frames or M10s, but I knew one old timer who carried a two inch 15 that way. He could shoot out the whole ace in the ace of spades at 50 feet.

Inherited a 15-2 Snubbie
I inherited a blued 15-2 with 2" bbl. from my wife's grandfather. It was his service revolver during his many years as a California police Chief Detective. The K509XXX dates to 1962, but the SCSW states that the 2" wasn't introduced until 1964. It may have been held in S&W storage for a couple of years and then released with a 2" bbl., or maybe rebarrelled by a police armorer- but we'll never know for sure. It sports a Tyler T-grip, and I also received his suede Buchheimer holster and spare cartridge holder (6-rd). It's a great little shooter, and very accurate for a snubbie. My wife qualified for her CCW with that piece. This one is an heirloom and will be passed down to one of our sons.

Model 15-2
Hard to find these- I inherited one from my dad who was in the Bureau and it was stolen probably 30 years ago. Found one almost NIB at a show for $700 and had to get it. Kept the magnas but put on a beautiful pair of Hogue tulipwood grips and it is a sweetheart ! I was thrilled to find one in this condition... and yes it gets to go to the range occasionaly
