Default Model 49 Bodyguard

Would someone be kind enough to suggest a value for a blue model 49 bodyguard manufactured in 1976?

The owner is asking $450.00 but, although the revolver is in as new condition, it does not come with the original box, papers, etc.

I'm thinking of purchasing this as an EDC for my wife.

I would try to haggle him down a little. That's perhaps a fair price if the gun really is like new; but, I would rather pay in the $350-$400 range.

I've bought 2 in the last year, neither with boxes, one was from 72 and was as new unfired from original owner for 465 the other was from 78 and was lightly used with turn line and it was 400.
Your in the ballpark, if they go lower great if not your overpaying by like 50 bucks. Your wife is worth it.

That gun looks really nice. I carried a M-38 back in the 70's and loved it. My wife keeps a 649 in her car and she really likes it. $400 would be a decent price for that gun, I believe. $450 might be a touch high but it depends on how much you want it. I would be tempted if I were looking for one. Best of luck in your negotiations.

Thats a very good price for a pinned barrel model 49. If you can haggle all the better but I wouldn't leave it there if you want it. If you want it because it's a great deal then leave it. Its a good deal if you want to carry it. Am I making any sense?

Sounds a bit high to me too but if the owner won't budge I'd pay the asking price, it isn't that bad. I've carried a flat latch Model 38 as a back-up from the early '60s off and on since I was a young cop in uniform.

$450 is a good deal and anything below $400 is a screamin deal. if you like this one, i wouldn't let it get away.

It's a 450 gun in this local market, drop to 400 and see if he will split the difference. If not buy it, don't see them like that everyday!

All I can say is that if I had seen it before you, you would not have seen it! A bit of haggling is in order but if haggling doesn't pay off snatch it up anyways.

I requested the owner to give me his best price and he didn't respond. It's still available but I'm passing on it for the time being. It's on a local sale site and I'll keep my eye on it.

You're passing on a nice gun at a fair price. You could buy a new "J" frame for more money and get a lot less value for your money.

I'd have to move on it if I had the money. That's my second-favorite J-frame.

It's a shame when folks lose a nice gun for a paltry $25-$50.00. Go figure....

As nice as that one looks? I'd have plunked down my $450 without hesitation.

Really nice 49s don't show up all that often anymore. I'd be on that even at $450. Also, since it will be a face to face you won't have to pay taxes, shipping and FFL fees. And you get to look it over first.

I am fortunate to be blessed with an understanding wife and a fair amount of discretionary income. I do not let $50-$75 keep me from buying a gun I want. I accept that some will say "you overpaid" or "I bought an identical firearm in better condition for half that." So be it. If the gun I want comes along, I don't let a few bucks stand in the way of buying it. There's a saying on this forum "You didn't pay too much, you just paid too soon." Fine firearms tend to appreciate in value. I'm comfortable with my decisions even if some sour grapes guy derides the price I paid.

I'm with Inusuit. I've over paid a few times, and picked up great deals a few. Honestly, I go by how much I want the gun first... but if the price is just too outrageous, that's usually pretty obvious and I won't do it. I call it "stupid expensive." $25-50 is just not enough to stop me though...I probably waste that much every month on stupid stuff at Walmart!

IMO, the revolver is not over priced. It is not a steal either. Must be about right!
