Default Model 13

Hi, this is my first day in this forum. I inherited a new in the box, unfired Model 13 with a 4-digit serial number. Can anyone tell me the approximate value of this gun?

Welcome....since value is determined by condition, posting (attaching) a photo or two of the gun would help others assess the value.

Welcome to the Forum.

The serial number is always located on the butt. Is the number there a 4 digit one, including any letter prefix, such as a "D"?

I have a real affinity for fixed sight S&W magnum revolvers. A new in the box example would be a great inheritance. I've been known to pay $600 for as new samples. I would not doubt that yours could be valued more in today's market.

Value varies depending on features. For instance, an M13 with a 3" barrel and round butt will probably sell for more than a 4" square butted one. Original stocks are favored over after-market.

That's why people are always asking for pictures since they often clear up questions.

So if you can't post pictures, try to give a detailed description.
List the dash number (IE, M13-2)
List the finish (Blue or Nickel)
Barrel Length
ETC.

I don't think you have 4 digit S/N. Look on the bottom of the butt for it. If you're looking at the number on the frame under the yoke, it's probably a manufacturing number used only in production. The experts can give you a value with photos and the correct number.

This thread needs a couple of pics. My 13-2 that I bought Sept. gun show. It looks and shoots great. Most of all the price was right. Bob
